Balance Tube question

When I changed my spark plugs a few months back I took off the balance tube so I could get to the back ones. I seemed really dirty inside the part it goes onto. Is there any way you can easily clean the inside?. Also There was nothing sealing the two joins, no gasket or O ring!!. Would this mean a potential vacuum leak?. Does this effect performance a great deal if the balance tube has a leak??

any thoughts???

There should be two `O`ring seals fitted in to the recess in the plenums, if these are missing it is VERY likely you have vacuum leaks as the machining of the facings are good but not air tight good.Stange though have never seen them missing before? eek.gif

Thank you Jeff

What Is the best thing to do?. Should I get the proper O rings or just put some gasket sealer around the surface?. Do vacuum leaks on create very bad running problems on these cars? what are the symptoms?
