ecu help

fitted veilside ECU today started with 1mm boost jets to both intakes inner pipes, the ones which go to the actuators.

ive an after market boost gauge which used to boost to 8 psi stock. ok here goes 1mm jets third gear up small hill DETONATION!

1.2mm jets same hill DETONATION! i was begining to wory at this point, anyway 1.5mm jets fine no det probs but now gauge reads 2psi more than it used to 10psi. on stock gauge it goes to last white mark surely this cannot be right, am i missing somthing or have i done somthing wrong.

Is the veilside ECU mapped for UK fuel or Japanese fuel? If it's mapped for Japanese fuel (Higher octane than what we can normally get here) Then that could be causing the detonation.

Have you tried using an octane booster?

Also remember the stock boost gauge isn't very accurate!

im using shell optimax approx 98ron only 2 ron lower. i also have an aftermarket gauge says it is boosting to 10psi now.

Ton mate, sounds to me and from experience that you must of been introducing an air leak on the first two attempts and on the third with the bigger boost jets got it right, this would also explain your increased boost level as you have succesfully lowered the vacuum to the actuators and hence holding them shut for longer = more boost available. The veilside ecu is well known to me having run my previous zed on one and detonation is NOT a problem however as with all upgraded ecu`s mapping is more for performance than normal so it would seem more likely that a stricter approach to correct engine running tolerences will be required, chances are a small air leak on a caused by rumaging around the pipe work (easy done on a zed)whilst fitting the boost jets would be less tolerated by an upgraded ecu than a standard one.

Oh and Chris C where do you get you opinion from please state as said elsewhere answers with strong opinions need qualifiying as if not they can be misleading to newer members or do you in fact know something we do not?( wink.gif ) Jeff TT
