Finally getting the Speed sensor replaced on Saturday, I've got used to no power steering so lots of oversteer to come.

 

Q Where abouts on the gearbox is the sensor?

 

Can it be accessed from the underneath of the car? Can the job be done while you wait?

 

The bloke at the garage does not know where it is but seems to think its a while you wait job. How long am I gonna wait?

 

Advice appreciated.

According to the service manual its on the side of the transmission about half way up.

 

Did you sort out the problems you were having ?

Anders, looks like this is the problem, replace the sensor and all should be well. Glad to get it fixed, I am getting a bit pissed off with the ZX. To fix this I drive at 100+ so the power steering is not an issue.

 

Well that's my excuse!

No of course I don't mind you asking, this is what it's all about after all.

 

The sensor is £90 inc vat. My local garage are great, Dave the service manager says that if its as simple as he hopes he will fit it for free.

 

I'm having a 6k done at the same time.

 

So if your speedo cuts out at all speeds less than 40mph and ther power steering packups up, its the chuffin speed sensor, At £90 it isn't a big deal either.

Finally got the speed sensor on today, all is now well and it's smiles all round.

 

The chap that does my car gave it a road test and couldn't believe how much quicker it was from the last time he drove it.

 

The old speed sensor had fallen apart. It only costs £75 and he fitted it for free.

 

So If you power slight flashes 15 times, the speedo needle does not register below a certain speed and the power steering packs up, its the speed sensor while is a bugger to fit but can be reached on the drivers side of the gearbox.
