Help what does the HICAS warning light mean?

How can I fix it?

The light come on, on the way to work this morning.

Before sh*tting yourself with visions of truck loads of cash leaving your wallet, check the powersteering fluid level. If this is low it will trigger the HICAS light. Usually the light will go off as the fluid expands after driving around a few minutes. If it doesn't then you may have a leak. So check the fluid reservoir, top up if necessary and let us know what happens. If the problem persists I'm sure someone on here will have more answers.

Had exactly the same problem a while back; HICAS light came on every now and again on start-up then went away after a while.

Anyway, car was just about due for a service so I booked it in; Nissan said it was just a low fluid level.

It's worth checking where that fluid is disapearing to ... it's supposed to be a closed system !

The powersteering fluid level in on the max line.

This better not cost me loads.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Is it a JAP import, if it is could be the speed converter. My HICAS light stayed on after about 5 minutes driving, and it was the converter faulty.

I didn't think there was a max line. You sure that's not the brake fluid reservoir?

Easy to check if it's the power steering fluid. Take off the lid and push the plunger. If the light goes out when the plunger is pushed then the level is low

Had the same problem.... Just needed toppin up with some Dextron fluid.

I waited till the car was cold... then topped up. This stuff seems to expand a fair bit when warm.

Cheers

PS: Anyone got a temp sensor for sale, cleaned the contacts but still no readin on the dial (or is there a resistance i should be lookin for across the terminals???)

Northernmonkey - the temp sensor for the guage is the one with a single terminal wink.gif The twin terminal sensor is for the ecu. The other contact for the guage sender is the housing itself...

CheerZ,

Oooops.. Cheers Andy. Cleaned up that contact as well. Still no joy!

Whats the resistance of the sender?

aaron - the resistance of the sender is how much it restricts the curent for a given voltage across it biggrin.gif Honestly you do ask some silly questions m8 wink.gif

Car had been sat in someone's garage for about three years before I bought it. Apparently they couldn't afford to run it. Had it checked over pretty carefully after the HICAS light issue; no other problems.

While we're on the HICAS subject yet again, can anyone tell me where the indicator light is supposed to be??

I have 91 J spec TT and I have never seen a HICAS light on the dash, even when switching ignition on... am I supposed to??

If so, I assume the bulb in the dash has gone, but not having ever seen it, I don't know where it's supposed to be!!!!!!

Frustrating, cos I may well have a HICAS problem myself and don't even know it!!

Any info gratefully received.

You should be able to see the HICAS light on this pic (somewhere!)

Looks like its the middle red one on the left hand side bottom row. No guarantee yours will be the same, they do seem to vary from car to car !

Cheers mate...

Luckily about the only non-Jap wording on that diagram is the one that says HICAS!!!!

Looks like its directly in between the LIGHTS and ANTI LOCK lights.....

Confirms my problem though, I certainly don't have a working light there on MY dash....

Hmmmmmmmm

I had the same thing with my car when I bought it - no HICAS light at all.

When I took the dash apart, I found that the importers (I believe) had removed the HICAS bulb & holder.

You know why? Because when they fitted the speed convertor, it buggered up the speed sensing, so the HICAS light came on.. Nice fix guys!

I swopped the LIGHTS warning light & holder over into the HICAS hole (so I lost my lights out warning.. ahh well! I can live without that..), and bingo.. The HICAS lamp was on all the time.. Sorted out the speed convertor, topped up the fluid (one of my low pressure return hoses weeps) and it behaved normally..

Once again, thanks mate!!!!!!

Was kinda hoping it was just a blown lamp, but sounds like I may have the same situation on mine (import) Bahh!!

Maybe I'll start by looking inside and seeing if indeed the lamp/holder is removed, and if so, if the HICAS lamp is gonna be on all the time.

If it is the conversion thats caused it thouth, I'm gonna get very much out my depth if I start tinkering with that!!!!

B**locks!!!!

Trust me, the conversion is *really* easy to remove, so you can see if it's the problem..

Four, or at most six wires. +ve, -ve (usually screwed to the back of the dash, just unscrew, remove the extra wire, and replace the screw), and then tapped into the speedo feeds, just take them out and join the speedo feeds back together and bingo..

It's out of the circuit..

If you need a good speed converter let me know I will dig one out for you.

Leigh.
