Does anyone know what size or where I can get one of the sockets with the slit up the side for removing the O2 sensors guys? :online2long:

22mm from memory - should be able to get one from Halfords or motor factors that sell tools, Snap-On dealer, MAC tools etc etc

Are you changing out a duff one? if so just cut the cable and get a ring spanner on it.

like he said, if it's duff, what i did was snap off the sensor, then a socket will fit the larger nut that screws into the elbow with a couple of long extensions, might want to soak it with oil/penetrating fluid first for a while, then after I had removed it, i put it in a vice and removed the middle O2 sensor part, oiled it up, then fitted the outer part back in the elbow, then screwed the new O2 sensor into it, but as said, 22mm O2 sensor/lambda sensor socket, basically a deep 22mm socket with a slot in the side, hope this helps matey... The problem I had was that the nut part of the O2 sensor seemed quite soft and rounded, that's why I had to take it off from the elbow instead, also watch out for the lead on the sensor getting twisted and damaged as you turn it, just keep your eye on it and un-twist as needed...

Can you just hand tighten the new O2 sensor in?

You should be able too. The reason it is so hard to remove is due to the heat and crud that it's had to endure in it's life time.

I would do it up to FT standard (Fooking Tight!) lol

Haha nice, thanks folks! Contemplating taking the plenum off to do them and some other things but never done a Plenum pull so it could be a train wreck lol!

I did a plenum pull for the second time last night, bit of a pain in the arse, but make sure you do the water bypass (search for plenum water bypass) and putting it back on is loads easier...

i recently bought an 02 sensor socket and it was next to useless to be honest . theres not enough of the nut showing to get a good bite on it . as mentioned above , break off the old ones with a metal bar and use a normal 22mm socket . the new ones havent gotta go back in that tight so just nip them up with a spanner.

inportant point when removing the old ones is to spray them up with wd40 and work them back and fourth to protect the threads . this bit of advice came from the zedworld guys so well worth taking note of.

you are very right mate, but even after snapping mine off, i still couldn't really get the sensor out with the proper sized socket, he might be lucky and they're not too bad, but that's why i removed the actual boss from the elbow, all worked out fine then, got it in a vice and could get on it proper to remove the remnants of the old sensor...
