HELP MY Z IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELP ME!!!!!!!

MY TT V6 Z IS DEAD.

I STARTED THE CAR THIS MORNING AND DROVE ABOUT 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND THEM MY REV COUNTER WENT TO 0 AND THE ENGINE STOPPED.

I TRIED TO START THE CAR ON THE KEY, BUT IT’S LIKE THERE IS NO FUEL OR SPARK.

I TRIED TO BUMP START THE CAR DOWNHILL, NO JOY.

CALLED THE AA.

AS PER USUAL THE GUY DID NOT HAVE A CLUE BUT,

HE CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS POWER GETTING TO THE COILS, BUT THERE IS NO PULSE WHEN YOU TRY AND START THE CAR.

CAR WENT TO GARAGE ON BACK OF WAGON

FU*KING TYPICAL IT STARTED WORKING FIRST TURN OF THE KEY.

WENT ON TEST-DRIVE DOES NOT DRIVE SMOOTHLY AT FULL BOOST, LIKE IT’S OVER FUELLING OR SOMETHING.

GOT BACK TO GARAGE THE ENGINE CUT OUT AT IDLE.

TRYED TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT SAME FAULT WILL NOT START.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS. CAN YOU HELP?

RICHIE………

Got exactly the same problem at the moment mate. The car is with SE Nissan at the moment, it keeps flooding the engine, overfuelling, they clean the plugs up, it starts fine, runs a while, then cuts out and won't start. Andy and Pete are there racking their brains over it, should get an answer tomorrow over whats causing it, I'll let you know.

WHAT'S A PTU?

Power Transitor Unit - kinda fundamental to the ignition system.

IF IT'S THE THING THAT TELLS ALL THE COIL PACKS WHAT TO DO (THE GARAGE CALLED THIS AN AMP) I HAVE HAD THAT CHANGED ALREADY. THIS WAS TWO WEEKS AGO BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE OVER FUELLING PROBLEM. THE Z WAS SUPPOSED TO GO BACK TO THE GARAGE TODAY ANYWAY TO HAVE THAT FIXED, BUT NOW THIS HAS HAPPENED.

Not to disagree with AndyP or anything.. but biggrin.gif

Sounds more like the crank angle sensor to me - given that you said the rev counter dropped to 0 as the car failed the first time.

The same thing happened to me and it turned out to be bad connections on the CAS (the CAS is the round silver thing, top right of the front of the engine as you look at it)..

The CAS itself may have failed - it tells the engine what position the cam is at so it knows when to fire the coils and when to inject the fuel. Without it, no fuel, and no spark.

Run an ECU diagnostic (instructions can be found at www.twinturbo.net) or get it to Nissan to run a CONSULT test on it. CAS will show up as a fault code.

CAS isn't cheap I'm afraid.

One more thing Richie, on a different subject.. lose the caps lock m8.. makes it real hard to read (it's also considered shouting in Internet circles)..

Cheers,

Az

I agree Az, resaon I didn't mention the CAS is that when those babies die they tend to do it permenently, UNLESS, it's a simple wiring problem.

Richie, if it does turn out to be the CAS then DO NOT TAKE IT APART. I think I may be able to fix it, but they need to be taken apart in a certain order and gently ....
