Just been lurking through the posts on this forum...been thinking about buying a ZTT and trying to talk myself into the purchase. If I could just ask a few q's:)

Does anyone know anything about the importer Veilside(.co.uk)?

I've about £5500 to buy my ZTT, is this a realistic amount of cash to buy a decent Z? (Autotrader.co.uk seems to carry lots of Ads' for Z's between £4k £5.5k, but reading some of the stories on this forum about £500 labour charges on problems worries me)

Bottom line, I guess, is that I'm not a rich man, I have gotten an insurance quote for £550/year and .. ah bollocks... it's a supercar. Who cares about mpg etc.. I just should go buy one;-)

Seriously guys.. I've saved for a year, no HP, no bank-loan interest charges, just me and my five and half grand waiting to join your z-club...talk me into it :::--))

Peace.

Glen.

hi Glen

go for it. i purchased a lowish mileage jap 2+0 just over six months ago and havent looked back since.

this forum and the others listed above are brilliant and i have spent many late nights learing about this super car. there is loads of info on how to sort stuff, save money and get good deals from the likes of Johnny. :-)

since my purchase both my rear silencers and centre section went (£370 to replace)and i'm coming up to a 60K service but otherwise so far no other problems.

petrol can be a bit of a stinger, i have used £20 for a quick evening drive before but if you don't hammer it all the time she can be ok.

as said in previous posts if you do decide 2 get one ask if someone off this forum will come with you - could save a lot of heartache in the future.

hope this helps, good luck

ps i believe you can find some stuff about veilside on www.zcentre.co.uk ??

Great thanks:)!!

I'll look at a few Zeds and get a feel for the car (I've never driven one:), and I'm sure I'll be back here with some more questions:)

I've read all the posts here in the last month and they are most informative.

Glen,

DON'T BUY FROM VIELSIDE!!

Trust me I know, I have been burned by those and there friends before, Right get comfortable and I shall begin;

I saw a Z for sale on the site at vielside, So I called them up and asked about it and they told me it was in A1 condition and it drove like a dream, OK I thought but it was in Leeds and is a long way to travel, So I called Sahil Motors in Nottingham who had an identical car there, So I went and checked it out (I knew nothing about Z's then but OMG do I now!) I saw the car, Dribbled alot and handed over the cash....It was when I returned home and looked on the Vielside website that the 2-seater they were selling was sold for £4750, shame I thought as I had paid £5000 for mine, anyway I noticed a leak from the power steering unit and a grinding noise from the front of my Z, So I took it into the garage and had it checked over, It came back with a massive amount of faults. These were;

Power steering unit shot, Both back mufflers welded, accident damage underneath (I was told it had never been in an accident) Broken headlight box, Leaky rook panels, New brakes needed (was told they were new) And it should never have passed an MOT as it was not road worthy!

So with this being told to me I got intouch with Sahil Motors and they told me to get it sorted on the warranty they supplied me with, So the garage called the warrenty place and they had never heard of Sahil Motors, So I called them again and told him I was bringing the car back and I wanted my money back, I met with him got my money back (well most of it) and that's when he let it slip....He had bought the car from Veilside, They all part of the same Family and then he sold it to me for £250 more than it was advertised for. I wondered why after I had bought the Z from Sahil it was sold on the Veilside site??

Right, As I said they owe me money still and the guy has changed his mobile number and his home number and I am not able to get hold of the Bastards, I have called Veilside as that's where Sahil got the 2-seater from and considering they sold it to Sahil they knew nothing about it and were very nasty to me on the phone asking me not to call again....as they know nothing about the car or Sahil....But the thing is Veilside had my old car back up for sale 1 week later in A1 condition....I mean a car with £2000 worth of faults in A1 condition, What do you think?

Remember you get what you pay for and if you do go with them, Please get it checked out by the AA or RAC and if possible get it garaged and let and Top Z guy look it over.

Don't get stitched up like I was....

Hi glen

I would highly recommend buying a Z of course - but a couple of points.

1. if you have waited a year for one now - then wait a little longer dive a lot of cars and try and find one that has been looked after - make sure it has a full service history that is reasonable for the price - or if it is an import look for signs of good TLC like all keys and TT bags. condition of interior Etc.

2. get as lower milage one as you can. parts wear with age and are not all that cheap compared to the price of Compact parts.

I have heard a few bad things about Veilside.co.uk (i.e not the parts manufacturere from Japan) i think they are in leeds and ripped someone off a while back.

These cars have some problems and wear areas - they are not the most expensive things in the world to fix but if you are counting on one as your only form of transport for work and play then you may have a problem as maintaing these cars cheaply often means waiting for parts from the states ot second hand replacements.

Watch for all the usuall things Especially Oil Seapage - Turbo noise and Vibrations all end up being costly or hard to fix.

Hope that helps - good luck finding the right Z

Be careful my friend, getting a good one with not alot of pre-knowledge is well dodgey! Try and get someone on this site to go with you, failing that at least get the yellow erics or the RAC out to 'em.

300Z's are very good at concealing minor faults like shagged engines etc. Do it right the first time and you'll be a happy chappy, do it wrong(like moir) and spend anywhere between 6-12 months without it...good luck!

Hi,

as all the above relies please be careful don't fall into the same trap as me and some others on the site.

You drive the car on a test drive, think "fucking brilliant" hand over the cash and then the problems start if you haven't bought carefully.

In the past 8 months I've had new exhaust, clutch, headlamps, water pump, all 4 tyres and am now waiting for brake discs and pads all round, all of this I should have spotted from the outset.

Please be careful, get a good one and never ever look back (except for all the other cars in your rear view mirror).

Regards

JW

all cars have probs its just that when a z breaks the main agents rub their hands with glee thinking yyiiippeeeee we can now get some of those parts we've had on the shelf for ten years and make fortunes.......just wait and see five more years and the price of 300 gear will drop through the floor. if you drive ure beast right then if you got a right one in the first place it'll give you plenty of fun and be no more unreliable than any other car

Hi Glen

As you can see from the guys posts there is a great deal of things you need to look out for when buying a zed!. After having a nose at your details I am assuming you are from the Isle of Wight. If so, that is where I live. You would be welcome to come and have a look at my zed and have a chat about what to look out for!. Give me a bell at work on 01962 866144.
