A few thousand years ago I would have been loaded

I bought these two complete hoards from the far east (with export approval) i cant even start to say exactly how many coins I have here 14Kg one hoard and 7.5Kg the other.

Im a bit of a history geek as I love anything old but decided to sell at least some of them on ebay as I could never clean these all in this lifetime LOL.

thats cool martin  you'll have to put a link up to your ebay sales and if I can afford some I'll buy some off ya! ;)

Did you really buy all 21.5kg?.....

That is a LOT of coinage mate..... and if my maths is correct... about £12k worth?... you really are a history nut!

Is there a big market for them?

ive got a load of old penny, about 40 lol, but alas none of them worth anything much lol

i love old stuff like this, i found mine while converting an old victorian house into bedsits, they were all buried under the tiles on a fireplace, apperently when building the house they would be buried under the concrete to keep incase the owner fell on hard time's

there is one fire place left and its what would have been the main living room and apperently thats where they would have buried the most coins

Do you have to use special cleaning stuff on these, or is good old fairy liquid ok? or should you leave them as they are?

Also in a massive ammount like that will you ever get any really crazy rare ones that pay for the whole lot and more? Or could be nice to find something that could go in a museum or something.:detective:

Did you know that one of the ways that paedophiles entice small boys into their company is to offer them Roman Coins?

Eh?? you must be kidding right?

Really cool stuff though. After Studying History and Archaeology for many years i have a real passion for this kind of thing. One of my papers was about the Roman fort in Arbeia at South Shields.

no. Having been concerned in the arrst of a natrional ring of said people all were found to have small and relatively valueless poor roman coins in their possession. When questioned about this that is what they said they used them for.

Why even mention that ?

because the topic is about Roman Coins.

Iam shure you mean well but you miss the point your comments are very negative and undesirable not what the thread starter would want to see as it shines a bad light on him. Try and post something postive and respectable to the thread owner.

Please be aware that I read madmaxs' post and visited his website which I found very interesting and informative before making my post at #8 above. I meant no disrespect to madmax and I apologise unreservedly if he is offended by that post.

The post was made to be informative and to stimulate debate not to insult or deride a person who I feel is doing something interesting and worthwhile.

Please read my post in the manner in which it was intended and feel free to comment if you feel the need. However do not let it detract from the interesting project upon which madmax has embarked. I wish him every success.

Pablito, main thing collectors appreciate more is a unclean coin, i know it sounds strange but it adds character to it.

Its just like if you ever find a very old gun, never clean it up, to a real collector it is more valuable and every time you try and clean that 120 year old crap off it, you devalue it by a few thousand.
