Dump Valves

I have a Jap spec Nissan 300ZX v6 twin turbo

and i need it to make that sound, but.

Do i need to buy two dump valves?

Will they cause any problems?

Is £85 for piston type with filter and fiting kit £75 a good price?

Thank you for your help

Why do you want the valves there in the first place? Is it just to make the sound.

Also, to me that is very cheap. Do not down grade just to make it sound. It could damage your car.

And yes you need two

The blow off dump valves dont just make a noise.

They release the excess boost into the atmosphere as oppose to recirculating like the standard dump valves do.

The standard setup is fine for normal boost, however when you increase the boost, the pressure of recirculating can cause the turbos to slow, and in most extreme case stall.

I would upgrade the dump valves to blow off type if you intend to increase the boost.

I know that they just dont make a noise. But the stock recirc valves are good to quite a high pressure and are also better than dump valves, cos the waste air is used again to spin the turbo back up.

Getting an induction kit usually makes it louder.

Stock Recric vales are good for recirculating enuff air to push 600hp - If you buy them for any less you are wasting your money Unless you can put a Boost leak down to them and them alone !

Sorry Dump valve people - Yes they make a nice noise but You do the Math.

Take air and throw it away or take it and use it ?

I know what my first choice would be . . .

Complete waste of space and money as far as I'm concerned!

As Nick says the recirc valves are more than capable so just get a few hundred quid and set light would be more fun I reckon! LOL biggrin.gif

I did like the Blitz but they stopped doing them.

To be honest with you that constant hiss would get on my tits after a while! Just tape a lorry air braking and then rig it up to a button on the dash...cheap and achieves the desired effect. wink.gif

Well, I'm obviously petty and very juvenile because I like the multi-sounding, loud as f*ck and the added functionality of interchangable tips.

Each to there own I say. I know they are expensive but I just depends whether you like that Tshhhhh'ing noise after the goose honk.

Just picture it. The sun's out, the roofs are out, windows down - and then, Tshhhhh! There it is!!!

Wouldn't be without them. HKS SUPER SQVs.

HHHHHHmmmmmm i read the above & think!

Im on std recirc' valves but since i fitted my own 80mm straight in air unit & my own end cans, i've got the ttsshh, when gear change & de'acclelelate?

Tony noticed it as passenger?

Its got even louder since the boost upgrade?

Is this ok?

All co readings & fuel prints fine.

Harve, when you fit an induction kit that actually sucks plenty of air in, you will here a small tish, it's compressor wheel slowing and spinning up heard through your cone.

Harv buddy

The standard dump valves recirc back to the inlet trunking either side of the standard air box so if you have removed the air box you are likely to hear the standard one doing there stuff.

I think I will get me some dump valves.

There was a supra twin turbo cruising around making that noise. It was so sweat it let everyone know it’s a turbo and that’s why I want dump vales, so they don’t think I drive a non turbo.

Just one point about recircs wink.gif They are effectively taking air which has already been heated by the turbo, then putting it back to before the turbo just so it can be heated again!!! This will mean you end up with a rich mixture when you come back on the throttle - just the same as with BOVs but with BOVs you get nice fresh cool air.

Any comments guyZ???

CheerZ,

Andy

andy, they are taking air that has been cooled by the intercooler, and dumping them back before the turbo, but, there is no mixture yet....

the ecu has accounted for the air already but its now in the wrong place

but, it does help to cool the air going through, apart from the fact that it has just been released through a valve which is bound to heat it up again.....

these lean/rich arguments for and against bov's are all by-the-by really...

now if you had a MAP rather than MAF you really could stop the lean/rich pendulum

but you really dont get any obvious benefit from bov's below 500bhp or so...

apart from the noise.. biggrin.gif

If anyone interested

I have a spare pair of HKS Sequential bovs that fit in a custom housing in place of the two outer pipes so are viewable once the bonnet is up. loud and mean

Cost new £500 bargain £180
