Blitz Boost Gauge

I am fitting two new 52mm gauges into one of Smithy's nice new duel pods, and being the lazy bugger I am I was wondering if it was easier to fit a boost gauge using completly new pipework to the engine bay or whether anyone had piggy backed off the existing hose going to the standard Nissan gauge. Would this mean both would still work or would I lose accuracy on the new gauge. Anyone done this?

Did mine at the weekend and I tee'd into the pipe going to the existing sender - very convenient 'cause it's easy to get to (through the bonnet release cable grommet). The little control box that drives the meter also fits neatly into the bracket that holds the instrument pod in place too.

Anyway, for the moment both gauges work and I have established that the standard gauge agrees with the Blitz one at 0 psi. Have to do some calculations to work out how accurate it is at other points on the scale though.

Was thinking about changing the standard boost gauge into a volt meter or something ...

From reading what you've written Tim, are you thinking the standard guage is mechanical? i.e has a vac hose going directly to the back of it... If this is the case you have assumed incorrectly wink.gif The standard guage has an electronic sender attached to the wing behind the front drivers side suspension turret. It is a square box with a vac line going to it which tee's into one of the vac lines going to the balance bar. Tapping off this line would be fine though.

Hope this helpZ.....

Was thinking it was mechanical but as long as I can T off it i don't mind. Also where is the best location for the gauge for water temp as I have one of these to fit as well. Should it be on the lowere rad hose or the top rad hose. Or am I completly wrong?

Thanks guyz

Tim

For the water temp sender I would keep it as near to the 'in' side of the thermostat as possible. Failing that as close to the existing temp sensors as possible.

Temp sensor should go on the top hose as far as I can remember. You can get adaptors where you cut the top hose in two and insert a metal tube with a threaded hole for the sensor...

Smithy got one of the rad kits so will drill tap and weld the boss that came with the sensor in place on the top hose, any tips on fitting the lower hoses smithy, not got much skin left on me knuckles after fitting the hard pipe kit. tongue.gif Good gear, must say I was impressed with the fit.

Tim, will mail yer laterz about fitting the kit, will save the rest of yer skin if nothing else.

Andy if you manage to turn the standard boost guage into an amp meter I would be interested in knowing how you did it.

PS thanks Smithy, saved my knuckles.

An ammeter is a bit more tricky, although arguably one of the most useful gauges you can have. A voltmeter should be fairly straightforward. Anyone got a donor gauge for me to mess with ? wink.gif

I just bought a Blitz Electronic Boost Gauge on ebay. However, there is no instruction manual. I have no idea on all the wires, can anyone help me out giving me the wire color diagram or any instruction.

Thanks

Eric
