battery + alternater probs

been having trouble with battery going flat,have changed it and tested to see if alternater is charging but it isn't.is there anything other than the alternater which could be causing this trouble?there seems to be a number of electical issues and am wondering if caused by same thing?any help welcome.:surrender:

    Our mx5 was charging when it felt like it, battery was new and alternator is only 3 years old.

    Fan belt was completely goosed though, changed it and all the problems went away :biggrin:

    Get a tester on the battery and see how much dark current there is running when all is off :thumbup1:

    Check the engine charge fuse in the black relay/fuse box under the bonnet on the passenger side inner wing, it is a red 10amp one marked on the lid as "ENGINE CONT" even it looks ok change it as a high resistance fuse will cause the alternator to not charge, this fuse can also cause problems with other electrical systems such as dash warning lights.

    My alternator would only start charging after the engine had reached 3000 RPM. Don't know why. No warning lights, nothing. Something to try.
