My desktop is working fine, no problems, or rather, was !!

My printer has seen better days so purchased a new one.

Anyways, my problem is, when I put the installation disc in, nothing happens ?? Get a wee spinning disc symbol next to the cursor arrow, but nothing else.

Tried the disc for the camera, mp3, nero etc and none of them wil run. They all did last time, no problems ? Wont even play cd`s that were previously written by it !!

Any ideas ??

Ran through the Device Manager and its saying this;

This device is working properly.

If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter.

Ran through the trouble shooter, and couldnt find owt ?

When I put a disc in, there is a wee spinning disc symbol next to the arrow cursor, loads of hi-pitched noises starting and stopping from the drive, nothing out of the ordinary, just that nothing happens !

Have a new printer to install as the old ones goosed. Have tried the new disc for the new printer, the old disc for the old printer, the disc for my camera and my mp3, all of which worked perfectly the last time and nothing works now ??

Alan......

Not being funny but is the disk the right way up ? I've known that cause problems with CD-Rs that people haven't bothered to label !

lol, actually checked that, just in case. Deffo the right way up.

It used to just Autorun when you put a disc in, but doesnt seem to be doing that now ?

Alan............

they can get tedious at one point mine done the same with a new disc i bought tried other discs and the same so i thought great the drive has died, this my sound stupid but i restarted, cleaned the disc new one (with cleaning solution) and popped it in. It recognised it as it should and loaded from autorun, worth a shot?

failing that id say its the drive, although you could try and get an updated driver and reinstall it

chris

Have you tried a laser cleaning disc?

Failing that it sounds like your drive has died, as it sounds like it won't read any disc at all

In the short term you could download your printer driver from the manufactures website, it'll get your new printer up and running

Another option to try is to uninstall the drive via device manager then restart pc, it will automattically redetect the drive

Did that, and it is up and running. Cheers Sorge.

Had this desktop over 4 years now, so maybe time to splash out on a new one ??

Will start a new thread for recommendations.

Cheers troops,

Alan.............

Whats the spec on that one

if the laser cleaner produced nothing maybe just change the drive? (might even have a spare one somewhere) glad you got the printer up and running though
