:helpsmilie:Hope someone can shed some light on this please.

Just recently, when i start my 300 tt from cold i get a high tick over, around 2,100 rpm. When i attempt to pull away the engine nearly dies accompanied with this rapid clicking. (3 ticks per second approx'):confused1: It appears to be coming from straight in front of me but it is difficult to pinpoint exactly due to the high volume. After a minute or so it seems to be OK.

Would someone point me in the right direction please.

Hi, idle is affected by a few things, you have the idle valve on the rear right of the plenum as you face it, the ecu which gets its values of the solenoids/valve etc.

Air leaks/ingress hugely affect the idle and don`t forget tps.

Does the clicking go away when the idle settles?

Maybe somethings sticking.

Is it manual or auto?

When messing around with the TPS on my car I noticed if its a long way out it caused a ticking sound from the dash which I guess was a relay, this would also cause your idle speed to be way out.

Hi Santa, Thanks for your thoughts,:thumbup1:

I had a good look round the points you raised. There does no appear to be any air leaks, Also checked a few connectors, but none of them seemed to be loose or dirty.

Also, yes the problem (ticking noise) does go away after the tick over begins to settle.

Sorry I forgot to mention, she's a manual.

Thanks also, suffolkZX,

I will check out my tps in the next day or so.

I decided to fire her up today and get into the foot well to have a better listen,

I thought it might have something to do with the fuel relay but it seemed to be higher up nearer the dash.

One thing I did discover was, as soon as I touched the accelerator pedal with my hand there was an audible click same happened when i released it.

(this was after it had settled down by the way)

Does anyone know what the pedal appears to be switching?:confused:

Cruise control release switch!

Thanks Groover,

May be worth me looking at connectors etc' relating to cruise control?:thumbup1:

Started her up again today and as she was still idling at 1500 rpm pressed the accelerator pedal just enough to make the cruise control switch activate, engine nearly died and clicking noise appeared.:w00t: I would of thought the switch would have been passive until the cruise control was activated but seems to be influencing things,:excl: or am I barking?

Is it worth me disconnecting the actuator for the cruise control and also, do I need to re set it in any way similar to the tps?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Groover,

Had a look under the fuse cover as you suggested, but unfortunately only found a blank space, No socket for a fuse or relay I'm afraid.

If I look at re setting the tps does the engine need to be running and up to temperature? or can I just turn the ignition on?

To re set the TPS, unplug the TPS while the engine is running, leave it for about 30 seconds then plug it back in. The ecu should re learn the setting.
