Engine cuts out @ 5000rpm

Can anybody help?

Engine cuts out when changing from 2>3 (auto) at full throttle or at @5000rpm in 3rd

it dies for about 4secs and then goes again. Has any body got any ideas?

my theory is that at about 110mph tou are hitting the speed limiter on a jap import. just guessing. "T"...

Yep thats exactley what it feels like but it does it at 80mph also.If you back off for a sec then hit the gas again its ok until you hit the redline and the box shifts up.Maybe the limiter is donald ducked? but the speedo works ok.

You sure you're getting constant fuel delivery. Is the fuel pump ok?

Is it always 80mph exactly?

Hmm good point, it seems to happen under heavy acceleration at full throttle but the rest off the time its ok.How do I check?

OK - Is this a Jap import?

That is *exactly* what my car was doing when the speed convertor (kph->mph) went west..

Pull the instrument cluster, unwire the convertor (yeah you'll be limited to 112mph again I'm afraid), and see if it still does it on the 2nd-3rd shift.

Oh - and run an auto transmission diagnostic, I bet you'll get "speed sensor" as a fault code....

Thanks I'll check

I had that too.

Does the speedo sometimes go to zero and the steering go light at speed and heavy when parking?

I got the garage to swap the speed sensor on the auto box and remove the convertor.
