I,ve been waiting for an E.L panel coming from china , turned up today so i,ve been playing ! lol

I read this write up but didn,t fancy using an oven !

http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/tech/illrp/illrp.html

I used a couple of blow heaters to warm my centre panel after removing the brass pins , they,re not screws as mentioned in the write up , i then gently prised it apart.

The inside black is very translucent so i scotchbrited it and used some satin black to paint it

zedrebuild338.jpg

zedrebuild340.jpg

I used a 320 grit DA pad and sanded the paint off the letters which are raised and make it simple to do

zedrebuild341.jpg

Once sanded hold it up to the light to see if it,s ok

zedrebuild344.jpg

Now the E.L panel came as a A5 sheet so it was too small to cover the letters in one strip so i cut 2 and overlapped them in the middle

zedrebuild355.jpg

Wired them up , stuck them on the inside with gaffer tape and bobs ya uncle one bling centre panel !

Cheers , i,ve just looked on ebay for the seller and i can,t find them anymore :angry:

Mine also in red although it does look orange in the pic :confused1: is the OEM part, although it did not work when I got it, I also got the 12 inch panel to mend it from glowhut :cool3:

Good work Boldy - get it fitted :cool3:

yeah, mine looks a bit pink in the pictures... I think the OEM has the full letters illuminated, like yours, where-as the DIY jobby is just the outline... (i think anyways)

Great job and i prefer the outline lit as opposed to the full letters. Have you done much more to the bodywork, looking forward to seeing some updates.

Awesome job, I did mine a while ago and scraped the full letters out:clown:, that looks better as Groover says, just the outline, nice and bright too, mine is dull

Great work boldy, really need to do this to my 300, but not liking the idea of removing the panel and seperating it........:(

It,s a piece of pi55 bud , removals only a few nuts as for the panel once the three pins are out get it nice and warm with the heaters but keep the heaters on it while working on it to keep the mastic soft , i used a pair of flat blade scrapers slipped between the halves but away from the corners and used a gentle but constant twisting action and the panel starts to come apart , going gently just work around the panel until it seperates .HTH
