water pump gone

Guys'

Found out water pump gone. How much to replace water pump & all the other belts??....

Andy said....

Here's what I'd do - 60k maintanance. Replace the water pump, thermostat, cambelt, two rubber hoses, auxiliary belts etc etc depends how far you want to go really - that way you've covered yourself for the next 60k miles anyway After I found what I found on mine, considering the receipts I had for work that had (not) been done, I would do this anyway ...........

Any idea how much I should pay at a garage for this?? smile.gif

Cheers Ken

will give you an idea of what to and not to pay.Jeff TT

Ken,

Before I decided to tackle this job myself, I was quoted £200 by, two companies for the labour, and I supply the parts.

I have just bought the 60K service kit, minus the tensioner from Courtesy for about £180.

So, I guess you can budget £400 in total.

Ken,

Tim got the kit from Courtesy Nissan in the states. Have a look at ;

http://www.courtesyparts.com/Z32-TBKITA1.html

That's whats in the full kit - Tim didn't order the tensioner (as he said), and I don't think he ordered the cam/crank seals (did you Tim? hope not, I hate doing those.. wink.gif)..

waterpump nissan £67.00 + VAT

EASY TO CHANGE liquid gasket £28.00 +VAT

My water pump went also about a month ago, bought the full kit from courtesy nissan and it took me just over 5 hours to do all the cam and shaft seals, waterpump, timing and drive belts, got a chance to clean up the whole of the timing compartment and change VVTi springs also. If possible do it yourself so you know it has been done properly. Many garages just do the minimum amount of work they need to in order to get paid, thats how they make a profit.

My NA is now flying and much more fuel efficient as the original timing blet fitted by nissan was nackered and 1 notch out of place, the VVTi springs were jammed closed and one of the seals was leaking, not to mention nackered water pump

It all cost me $411 about £300 inclusive of 3 day delivery, My advice, buy the whole kit and do it properly yourself or with an advanced members assistance, even the tensioner and the timing belt idler pulleys should be replaced if its done 60K, it guarantees no problems till you get to 120K.

P.S. If you are going to place an order from

courtesy nissan and ship a large package, for a timing belt kit put some new spark plugs in and change the PCV valves at the same time.

Best of luck

Amer.

guys,

What are the VVTI springs & what are the PCV valves & where are they??????????

Thanks KEN confused.gif

VVTI springs - actually (from memory) VTC springs (VVTI is Variable Valve Timing i... i.. injection? Honda's new system.. VTC Variable Timed Cam I think, what we have)..

They are the springs that hold the mechanism in the cam's which changes the timing into it's 'default' timing mode.. Oil pressure is then pumped in which overcomes the spring, to change the timing on demand of the ECU (via the solenoids on the rear).

If these springs go weak, then you can get a clicking noise.

PCV valves - Positive Crankcase Ventilation. They are there to prevent a buildup of crankcase (blowby) gasses, which would pop oil seals or blow the dipstick out. Fresh air is also circulated through the crankcase via these valves and the tubes on the front of the crankcase (the "pillars" just behind the timing belt cover), to stop blowby gasses (typically rich in petrol) breaking down the oil quickly.

Guys,

Where can i get the tensioner...??
