Not sure if this is normal, or someone could help me with the issue, but my car is building alot of pressure in the front water hose, so much so that it gets bent out of shape is rock hard and the car overheats, now im not sure if this is normal for the hose to get rock hard. hence this post, now if this is not normal, might it be the thermostat causing both problems?

no water leaks, radiator is new, and heater matrix has been bypassed as it began leaking, also there are no kinks in the matrix bypass pipe causing and loss of water cycle.

you could have an airlock, did you bleed the rad when up to temp, when you replaced it?

the car seems to be overheating quite, alot to be honest, lasts longer with the heater blowers on, but with them off 5-10 mins drive and the needle starts going up.no air locks or water leaks anywhere though....

im puzzled,

Thermostat could be the culprit.

To be honest the matrix bypass, when i did mine, had a bit of a kink in the pipe, but the engine didnt get any hotter by it, the front pipe is still flexible even when hot, so you may have a blockage.

Did you flush the engine through, when you replaced the rad?

Check your dip stick and oil cap for discoloration or mayo, just in case.

no oil or dipstick discolouration, is there any way to rule out headgasket issues? the car starts and runs fine. idles stready, no smoke from exhausts, and oil preasure is fine.

Thats why i asked about any mayo in the oil cap. You could get a sniffer test done, which tests the gasses in the water, hopefully it will be thermostat seized closed.

Feel the radiator core - if it is cold then it is clear you have a block somewhere, an airlock or no water flow. It would be unusual for a thermostat to fail closed. They usually fail stuck open. Also if the system were to overpressure the radiator cap valve should open and bleed pressure/water into the overflow tank. Do you actually see steam?

If you start it from cold and let it tickover while keeping checking the top hose it should stay cold until suddenly getting warm as the thermostat begins to open. It should then begin to go firm as pressure rises.

If it's something very serious like a blown head gasket what can happen is combustion gases actually pressurise the water system. This creates an airlock and no water can flow. You might also see oil in the water, emulsified oil or mayo as Grover says above under the oil filler cap and on the dipstick.

All pointing towards head gasket failure im afraid.it wont develop an air lock out of the blue so its not good news bud.

Just a thought. You say you've bypassed the heater matrix, but you also say putting the heater on helps with the overheating. With the matrix bypassed, the blower should have no effect on overheating. Are you sure you've done the bypass correctly? I'm no expert by the way!

ashleydc , this was before the matrix bypass. ive reconnected the pipes now and the car doesnt overheat, i think it had an airlock when i made the matrix bypass. its fine now, but just steams up the car,

JIMMER is there anyway i can test for head failure, or possibly can i contact you for some advice, as you seem to know lots about these engines, and im in dyer help.
