Hi guys hows it going.. I am a new recruit of the 300zx scene and recently acquired my targa about 3 weeks ago.. I only bought it to hold up some money so i didn't spend it all with the idea of selling the car again in the summer.. However i love it! So that has put a hold to that situation..

anyway I have had a look and my car is leaking oil out the bell housing where the gear box meets engine. There are no cracks so i reckon it is the oil seal in the gear box.. Has anyone done one of these or had similar problems? My car has only done about 80k and the engine is sweet as a nut. Its all clean underneath no rust etc so I cant see why the seal would have gone??

If anyone can shed any light on the matter i would be very greatful. I need to know if its a big job, is this common on these and can i buy a new seal kit or does it mean a new gearbox?? I should also mention this is a automatic!

Cheers guys

As mentioned though the problem is you have to take the gearbox of to change it!

O right kool.. The gear box is nice and smooth so won't need a new one I don't think just have to source a seal now.. Cant be as hard as finding parts for my honda sm-x!!!!

Thanks for replies so far guys really appreciated..

nono look in the trader section, dta will be able to supply you one. its not a seal on the gearbox, its actually on the back of the engine. Rear crank seal. On the assumption it is that!

You need to do the pcv valves and hoses! thats the reason you are leaking oil through the rear crank seal, oh and you have to do that aswall and that means droppin the gearbox. Sorry! When the pcvs fail the pressure makes the seal on the rear of the crank fail.
