Help - Dying Engine?? Lots of oil in water

Virtually all of the oil has dumped itselft into my coolant system over the last couple of days. Is there anything other than head gasket failure that could have done this? The car runs fine with the coolant temperature constant at just below the mid point. I checked the oil that was left in the sump and it's clean whilest my coolant looks like a chocolate milkshake. Considently the day before I noticed the problem when I did my monthly fluid check I had done a compression test. 5 cylinders gave 152 psi whilst number 2 gave 143 psi.

Could it be anything worse than a blown head gasket? She has done 158000 miles so if it's going to cost a fortune to fix then it's time to get a replacement car but I'm will to pay to do the head gaskets plus minor fixups.

Anyone know a good mechanic/garage with lots of experience of TT's within say 100 miles of Oxford. I've thought of SE but they don't answer my eMails.

There are several potential probs here, which include blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head or the water cooling jackets on the turbos. If compression is good then it's less likely to be the head gasket/cylinder head.

You wanna talk to Crazy Eddie becuase he has a very similar problem and his car is now at SE being fixed. Incidentally, they never answer emails - get them on the phone.

If it is the head gasket it's still a huge job to change em.

I thought mine had gone and not many people wanted to touch it because of the length of time involved. Good luck!

Try Option motorsport at Silverstone, ask for Kiki, knows his stuff, also dealt with Bill Owen down your way some years ago, not with a Zed, but he knew his Nissan's, could be helpful for a scond opinion, he's in Oxon on 01865 820580

That's strange cos my 200sx has water in the oil yet when I took the head off, the gasket looked OK & the head isn't warped. I'm wondering if it is the turbo now because it's seized! Also there was loads of oil/water mix in all the pipes & turbo inlet side!

On 300's there is a water cooling jacket on the turbo. If the casing is cracked then the high pressure feed to the turbo's can weep through to the water jacket. I am told that the water cooling is not absolutely necessary and most cars can be run without, although then I guess the oil will eventually drip somewhere else. Bear in mind that oil in the water will float on top and appear pretty bad, when in fact there may not be much there at all. Not a happy situation though !

How do I get hold of Crazy Eddie?

If you search here long enough you'll find a post by him, but to save you some time his email is :- dave_edwards@btinternet.com
