Anyone else noticed how tyre prices have shot up loads over the last couple of months?

Only 2 months ago I noticed one of the tyres on Julia's Rav was getting a bit low but my garage said it was perfectly fine for a couple of thousand miles. Back then a replacement was just under £100 (Bridgestone Dueller 235/60/16).

Now that the snow has arrived I was thinking about replacing it (plus one other) sooner, before the VAT increase next month. Suddenly the price is up at £116 to £121 from the same online mobile fitters!

I also checked Event Tyres and E-tyres prices for a pair of Goodyears for the ZX. Last year I bought the 265/35/18 Asymetrics for £176 each; now they are £205!! Luckily they are not worn out. Yet!!

I'm not looking for a cheaper brand; but I thought that the percentage increases were extortionate!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I did thanks mate - they're virtually the same price. However I have just found that Kwak Fart (if booked online) are cheaper!

It's still absurd though - I know everything is going up in price; but that kind of percentage increase is staggering!!

I was going to get the Missus some new tyres for Xmas (romantic, I know)

So did a bit of online hunting, but cheapest I coud find were £42 a corner.. They're only tiny little things - 175 60 14s - and last year I got 4 tyres for my skyline (195, 55 16s) for £168, fitted. I was thinking, how can it cost the same for these smaller tyres? So, I phoned up the tyre centre that does the tracking for me on the Zed, and the best they could come up with was 4 no-brand budget tyres for £50 a corner. Needless to say, the missus isn't getting any new rubber boots this xmas. SHe'll have to make do with the perfume instead.

now being in the market for some new daps, i was quoted £110 for 235/40/17 and £135 for 265/40/17

asked in kwikfit and they wanted over £300 for michelins each!!!!!!!!!!!

blackcircles seem to be the way forward, good choice and good prices

as they are oil based products and the price of oil is now 100 dollars a barrel ...the price is going up...you can bet the price wont drop when the oil comes back down though :(

Unfortunatly everything is delivered by road in the UK and as soon as Fuel Duty is hiked, so is the cost of fuel and all goods as companies can't run at a loss!....This is happening with everything if you look more closely. Like you say, it's not teh amount, but the % increase!
