So are some HGV's lol.

Why is it on a dual carraigway, one lorry decides to overtake another and takes forever to do it? causing a tailback of traffic in its wake.

They are both limited to supposedly 65mph so unless the one in the inside lane is really struggling, i dont get it.

But i do know what you mean lol, as a white van man driver

Im not, but my old man has been a HGV Haulage contractor for 40 years

what i mean is i drive a artic and all week car drivers r driving too bloody slow on motorways! Why? The roads r clear.

Trucks r limited to 56mph and the reason they crawl past each other is due to when ur fully loaded, if u back off u loose a lot of speed and momentum. And every truck is slower or faster than each other on ther limiter. So its easyer to overtake. But u do get some prat who can not get past at all and just blocks up the middle lane

Haha, I have the licences but not driven one for about 5 years now. Its a pain trying to get 40 ton of fuel lorry back up to speed LOL

Most of them brake the speed limit then lol

They dont, just your van speedo is out... lol like most of them are! :)

If they exceed 56mph it goes on the tacho and woe betide any that get inspected!

I admit alot of car drivers are a pain but good god wagon drivers can be very inconsiderate, rarly look in the mirrors long enough to judge speed and just pull out, or bully their way out even if there are cars beside them.

Again, over taking should be banned between 4 in the mornnig and right through till 2 the next morning ;) Maybe not, but 6 am till 8pm at the very least! Especially on 4 or greater lane motorways. Absolute nightmare when you have 3 lanes completly blocked by wagons... Problem then is john and mavis out with the caravan, wobble into lane 4 (of course completly illegally but they dont know/care/realise what lane they are in) and all hell breaks loose as 150 black audi a4 base models think, ohh a que and howl up the inside of everyone and push their way in...

Youre right there Chris, its about 5mph out after 60mph. I was doing 75mph according to the satnav, the speedo read around 80mph.

Unless its changed trucks aint allowed in the fast lane, however I know it happens. :taz:

i drive cars so i know what is like but if u neva drove a waggon u dont know wat its like. But ther r good and bad car and lorry drivers. The speed limit 4 trucks a 60 but trucks r restricted at 56 so we r aloud to pee off people in the middle lane. Know 1 can tell ya how to do some thing if ya neva dun it before!

Change gear change gear change gear, murder a prosie change change gear... lol

To be fair I have a couple of friends who are wagon drivers, its hardly rocket science. Boring more than anything! I dont denai there are good and bad lorry drivers, but few seem to have little regard for other road users or the delays they cause.

Rob, I was meaning on 4 lane stretches such as from the M56 to the M62 junction on the M6, or going up towards saddleworth on the M62 does my tree in!

On two lane stretches, or stretches of 4 lane which is merging into 2 motorways (such as M6 J32 for the M55 they block all that up as well. nightmare!

Thing is, if a car driver makes a wrong move the worst damage it will do to an hgv is scratch it and at the extreme end of things cause it to jack-knife but if a lorry driver gets it wrong it can wipe out many people within a few seconds. A lorry once drove into me when I was in a slip lane he wanted to get into and didn't look at his mirror. And a 16 wheeler crane driver once overtook 3xtractors and a car around a main road blind curve right infront of me, I had to drive right off the road to avoid being killed, the guy flashed and waved in apology but had it been someone changing a CD for example that would have been it. I've driven hgv's loaders diggers tractors the works and the problem is that you really have to pay attention to what you're doing but not enough drivers do. Then again a car is a lethal weapon in careless hands just the same I suppose.. it's just a smaller one.

Im a HGV driver and i find that car drivers are driving slower on motoways even slower than my limited 56mph, which makesme have to overtake, but then i find when i indicate to pull back in, the car driver will speed up, meaning i sit in the middle lane longer.

sorry guys but ime with the HGV drivers on this one...being a driver on todays roads has to be the most frustrating job out there and i have full repect for them:yes:...and NO ime not a driver just a shitty arse roofer which this weather has to be the 2nd most frustrating job out there:angry:

Ive had my class one for 16 years now and i hate driving trucks now,so many inconsiderate car drivers carving you up and pulling in front of you then braking causing you to shit your pants as 44 tonnes dosent stop on a six pence,or the classic is when a doris in her little car tries to go around the roundabout at the same time as you ffs when you have a 43 ft trailer on,i say folks unless youve drove an artic its hard to comprehend how dodgy it is moving one through traffic these days.IMHO all car drivers should be made more aware of hgv,s and to see what damage they do to cars when they hit them,im not joking when i say you would not even feel a car if it got caught by your trailer when its loaded, feckin scarey things.

thank good there is some one on this site that drives trucks. If u have not driven 1 u will neva no. And if people think they r easy to drive who dus not drive them, well i think u should hav ago. Its like any job its easy when u know how. But drivin trucks is different every day. There is a lot to think about when ur drivin 44 ton.

What did you want us to say? You have started a topic insulting car drivers, so what do you expect back?

Maybe it is more difficult but seeing as modern truck are generally automatic, have cruise control and every other mod con. Just because its bigger doesnt mean its impossible to drive? I admit if a car pulls infront of you its a problem but what about when your coming up at 70+mph and you have two wagonss, both very slow doing 30mph in the inside lane. One things he can get passed the other so pulls into themiddle at 30.25mph and suddenly the car behind has to jam on the brakes because of the dangerous and selfish driving of the wagon driver....

Only way I found is (quite funny I have to admit) was to push em back behind the one they want to over take. There is a big hill near me and two wagons dueling up it, so i simply pulled infront of the offending muppet and let of the accelerator. Now however much of flashing horns and lights he either hits me or slows down and gets back where he belongs in the inside lane. Not nice being slowed down by other inconsiderate drivers is it?

Being in Grimsby we are surrounded with HGVs coming off the docks here and at Immingham mainly using the A180/ M180. I also use this road alot going to and from work and can only say what a selfish bunch of tossers most HGV drivers are, dualing up a dual carriageway for miles, pulling out when they feel like it regardless of whats there and forcing there way onto the main road from sliproads. One morning on my way the work one lane was closed for repair and a 40mile an hour speed limit was in place the speed I was doing when one of these wagons can right behind me horn going lights flashing. So I slowed to 30 miles per hour and stayed there for about 5 miles with this **** getting more and more irrate. when the road works came to an end I allowed him to go past and gave him the finger, made my F***ing day.

Once again were back to the unless youve drove one dont comment,do you really think truckers sit there for a laugh? a good driver would anticipate the hazard of the truck overtaking and allow plenty of room, thats what seperates a proffessional driver from a license holder. When your sat behind a lorry in another and your limiter is set at 1 mph faster than his, plus you have the slipstream caused by the leading truck it can be annoying having to hold back on the throttle so you try to overtake then when you get out round the other it can take ages its one of those things, trucks are allowed in the middle lane if you check the highway code but usually its clogged with knob heads in cars who wont pull over.Id bet you wouldnt make 5 miles through the average town center in an 8 wheeler let alone an artic !!

im a truck driver

dont even get me started on this subject.

basically there are good drivers and there are bad drivers

and thats for cars and trucks.

the ones that make me laugh are the ones who say trucks should be taken off the road

we live on a island

without trucks, the country would come to a stand-still (face it )

how do you think the petrol gets to the petrol station to run your bloody cars ????

and does the food magically appear in the supermarkets ??

In summing this up as stated earlier!

There are good and bad drivers of all vehicles !

the only difference is you can be a much bigger bully in 44 toner

so all you bullies in cars that feel left out get a bigger vehicle!!!! lol

on a serious note

If everyone was made to do a motorcycle test and ride one we would all be much better drivers.

and before anyone says it.Yes there are some absolute idiot motorcyclists but they tend to have a death wish which normally gets completed without harm to others

Surely you just look in the mirror and dont hit stuff... lol I dont think you can really comment on my driving ability? I'm certainly not commenting on yours?

Dam surely its not annoying to have to follow the vehicle infront? Its annoying for the rest of us to keep holdnig back on the throttle for the selfish wagon drive thats blocking the motorway.

I never said a truck isnt allowed in the middle lane, I just said they shouldnt be.

Anticiption is fine, infact it should be tought more in driving lessons. What wagon drivers DONT do is look/care/think about the approaching speed of vehicles from behind them before just hacking their way out.

I remember quite a while ago being stuck behind a truck that was overtaking a JCB, fine no problem at all. There was a que of cars behind the truck.

Now a truck that we had all over taken maybe a mile back came hammering up the inside of all of us and proceeded to barge its way into the second lane. In the process pushing me onto the grass verge in the middle. Now there was no need for that stupid selfish and dangerous act. I wouldnt mind if it was isolated but as said above it just seems like the profession attracts bullys and because of the size lets them get away with it.
