ECU EXHAUST MONITORS

Hi I been trying to check the lamda sensors,

first problem is I definately have no mode selector/pot on my ECU. I have the red LED and just a hole with no pot there, therefore how can I switch to the other side????

I managed to do the other side but I think it could be shot 'cos the check LED stays on for 14 - 15 secs then off four about 4 - 5 seconds while holding the revs at 2000rpm.

According to previous posts it should flash five times in 10 seconds anybody no what the problem could be??

jonny,

sounds like you have a lazy o2 sensor - quite common with age.. time to replace it basically..

as for swopping sides - how did you get the ecu into diag mode with no pot?

you can put the ECU into diag mode by bridging two of the pins on the consult port, and you can also switch sides in heated o2 mode the same way.. i have the details at work - i'll try and remember on monday.. if i dont reply then - shoot me a mail to remind me smile.gif

Check the picture below for which pins to short:

Be sure to drive around a bit prior to testing the O2-sensors.

They have to be warm enough to operate correctly.

thanx guyz, maybe that's why 'cos I let let the car idle for about 10 mins at normal temp then just upped the revs to 2000 to make the test. Yes, I shorted the two pins together if I stopped the engine a second time and shorted the pins would it then change sides then??

Also would it do any harm like this as I don't have any error codes at all yet for the sensors so would it be OK to neglect until they totally breakdown??

The procedure is:

1. Turn ignition on

2. Short the pins for 2s

3. Start the engine (entering O2-sensor test)

4. Short the pins for 2s (change side)

Upon changing sides, you will see short blinks of the check-engine light.

2 blinks = R-side sensor

4 blinks = L-side sensor

I don't know which side it starts with, so you can

just as well change sides after entering the O2-diagnostic mode.

If a sensor is faulty, I would not recommend driving with it.

It can get stuck on either Rich or Lean condition, giving you

rich or lean mixture.

There is no O2-error code (at least on the early ECUs).

Hope this helps.

thanx guyz I'll check it out, by the way my car is a UKTT '92, anybody know what I should expect to pay to have 'em replaced, ohh and can I replace them with the engine in the car??LOL....
