Reet, this is becoming slightly tedious now... I have re-built all 4 calipers, put them back on, but wouldn't bleed properly, just constant air coming through, and bubbles rising to the surface of the resovoir... So, master cylinder goosed.. Got a seal kit, rebuilt it, now it bleeds fine, have got all the air out of all four corners and the ABS unit... But, with a few pumps, the pedal goes hard, but if pressure is kept on the pedal, it will push down to the floor in about 5 seconds. Also, the ABS light is on, could this have anything to do with it? Perhaps a knackered solenoid or something? Any help would be massively appreciated, as it is starting to irritate me!

I am happy with the work I have done, but was wondering if one of the calipers could be at fault, maybe clamp the flexible hose on them one at a time and see if the pedal improves?

Cheers guys...

Have you bled the ABS unit?

edit.. Sorry just re read and you say you have. Stupid question but which way round have you got the calipers, as to say where are the bleed nipples on the bottom or the top of the caliper?

Classic worn master cylinder, the new seals made it better but not completely, needs replacing with a new one or a known good used one.

The ABS light on is most likely a wheel sensor on the front, if you did any amount of tapping or knocking at the hub area without removing the sensor first then they can break internally, the abs ecu has a check light on it, reading the flashes will identify the cause/ wheel sensor.

Oh and when you change the master cylinder on its own you only need to bleed at the abs unit in the boot not the calipers.

hmmmm, okies... And, me being a tool, never thought of that, the nipples for the rear are at the bottom, and the front at the top, that doesn't sound right!

The bleed nipples should be at the top. Sounds like you may need to swap sides.

Yup, rear calipers on left to right :) There is no way you could have bled them properly so I would say there is your culprit.... Or BMC as Jef said :detective:

Correct!

well that's given me something to look forward to later on! after I change my alternator belt, since my water pump froze and the belt snapped last night :( Fitted my new exhaust and HIDs last night tho, just need to sort the brakes out and underseal, almost there :) :) :)

Thanks Quavey, sorted it last night! Swapped the rear calipers over, bled them, and it's spot on, glad that's sorted! :) What a numb nuts....!

Ah good good mate! Glad its all sorted, I had a simiar issue with mine, i sent it to a garage a few days after I had bought it for them to do some work on it including changing the rear calipers and they called me to tell me that the fronts were on the wrong side, hence the spongy pedal... In my defence the previous owner had changed the "bled" the front brakes before delivering the car to me and I simply drove it to the garage and thought hell fire this stops like a duck on a frozen lake!
