I had a banging from under the car for a while and suspected it to be either the gearbox mount or the centre prop bearing.

After obtaining another front prop piece from slick pete:bow: I took it to the garage to get sorted this morning.

I can tell you that my centre bearing, no longer had a bearing  completely gone, just the ring left lol. So after the new one fitted, banging gone. I have a bit of vibration now  but i think a turn 180deg may sort it out, but im not too bothered about it for the minute. Will wait till the weather gets a bit better and do it myself rather than going back to the garage.

I took a spare new gearbox mount with me too just in case, but that was fine.

Cant wait to do the manual conversion and stick my new single lightweight prop on, then wont have that problem again:balloon:

Good news mate:thumbup1: I finally got my lightweight prop fitted a few weeks ago on the SWB but only done 800 yards of driving with it on (the garage to my house) with the weather it hasent been out since but it was a smooth drive home cant wait till this snow goes away.

Hiya, been told my cars vibration is down to the prop bearing im just wondering now if its safe to drive?was hoping to get a lightweight prop aswell, but it was near the end of my list of things to do.

I would get it sorted before it damages something else, highly recomend Jeffs lightweight one piece prop (no center bearing)

Although you may have vibration, it will be safe. Mine used to vibrate, but then deteriorated. The rubber goes and your left with just the mounting ring.

The prop wont come off, just bang a little on pulling away, but i would recommend not to let it get that bad and replace as Gary suggested with a one piece, when you get the chance.

These things can vibrate for years before anything happens so i wouldnt worry about it too much at the moment.

Good news then Graham.

Although the bearing I sent was spot on the prop front joint was a bit past its best!!

Maybe turning it will help.:cool3:

Again its well worth it mate when you consider the price of a center bearing which will in time only wear again.:)

there is no doubt that Jeffs re-manufactured props are excellent value and are a total fix, but since most centre bearings have lasted 10 to 15 years on the original cars a new one fittted now will probably outlast the car!!

And a good used one or a cheap new one will be a lot less than a new prop.

Thats what i thought, although im not too bothered as long as it lasts a few months till i do the conversion, which im sure it will.
