So its the water system again, well I have replaced pipes, rad and the water pump. Would it hurt to leave the Thermostat OUT? as the 300zx engine seems to run hot anyway.

Also doeas anyone know where to get a heater matrix from? Oh car is a 1990 import NA

I've not heardof thermostats being removed. keeping them will help warm up on a cold day.

Matrix is available from Nissan delaers. About £80 I think.

Hey Mr Banana man, you got your old rad pipes ?? don't care if knackered or not.

Hi Smithy

If Banana Man doesn't have the pipes available. I'm never going to be using my old ones again (still most useable), since I've bought new ones which are in the process of being polished.

Let me know m8.

You should always have one - thermostat. Otherwise in cold weather it'll never get hot. And stay in safety boost. Also itll run cold, wear more and use more fuel.

Plus the thermostat will assist in regulating the flow of the water. Without it (in some engines) it is possible to end up with hot and cold spots, not sure whether this affects Zed's though.

It strikes me that looking for the problem would, perhaps, be better than offering a half hearted solution.

My Zed doesn't overheat, even after sitting stationary in london traffic for 1.5hrs, if yours does cook I would suggest trying to find out why. Rad core, blocked heater matrix, check your current thermostat opens?

Agree with you there Tim. There is a lot of mention of Zed's running hot - they don't, my water temp seldom goes above 84 deg C, even in traffic. However, it does get very warm under the bonnet due to loads of hot engine, radiator and very little airflow.

NO!!!!!!

Dont leave the thermostat out, the car doesnt run as well. Also you will use more fuel until the engine is up to tempertaure, and then it will struggle to maintain the correct temperature at speed.

Also the engine doesnt run hot!! The under bonnet temperature is hot due to lack of air flow, but this does not equate to a hot running engine.

You shouldv not leave stat out it will cure problem of over heating in the short run but there must be a problem else where do you loose water when you give it a bit of right foot if so look at head gasket cause i have just had same problem and my stat had been taken out if not sounds like rad problems
