Guys,

Back to the question.Been out tonight stopped on pub carpark looked underneath, water pissing out DRIP DRIP DRIP!.Don'nt even talk to me ;-( !!!!!!!!!!

Ken

p.s thanks for moving this question.

SHREK, bud,

Go to a engineering supplier & buy a tin of developing powder.

Its like a liquid CO2, that dries on contact & will show any leak of viscosity, (ie) oil or water....Spray where suspect!

Do it when cold, then start the engine, let it tick over maybe rev it 'gently' - it will show a witness mark on any surface at any pressure. just look for the purple bits.

Then you can conclude the problem.

harve.

Ken - whereabouts was the puddle forming in relation to the engine? front, back, left, right etc?

Don't let that engine run low of water!!! Overheating by any amount is bad news brother!. Keep water bottles in the boot. Fill up with hot water if engine hot. Keep the faith. One of your hoses is gawn most likely. If you can't see it, try hearing it. You need somehere quiet and the water needs to be hot/under pressure. Use a piece of pipe or a tube to your ear and poke the other end down into the engine bay to suspect hoses etc. Listen for the ssssss!

That is the same problem i was having for over a year. One minute the water level was fine and then the next it would just dissappear. Hate to say it but it ended up being the water pump on mine and this seems to be a common problem, just dont let it overheat or it will be serious money, always carry lots of water on board.

Either the water pump or one of the metal coolant pipes that comes out of the front of the engine. Of course it could be the rad but you'd be able to see the dripping if it was....

Guys,

Got back tonight, got all the gear out in the pouring rain, took off the splash board & DRIP DRIP DRIP from the water pump. That is,the pump is the bottom pulley?.

Is this a major task or can i do it myself????

Site please!!!!

Cheers Ken

may not be the pump. It may be one of the hoses that feed it. They went on mine. Replace them both. There are 2 short stubby hoses. Getting at the water pump is a bit of a pain as you have to take most of the front of the engine off. It's a good time to change other components - timing belt, water pump, thermostat.

Yep, water pump OR the top pipes (the silver alloy pipes that come out of the front of the engine).

Neither job is massive to be honest wink.gif Both invlove the same effort and while you're doing one you may as well do the other....

Here's what I'd do - 60k maintanance. Replace the water pump, thermostat, cambelt, two rubber hoses, auxiliary belts etc etc depends how far you want to go really - that way you've covered yourself for the next 60k miles anyway wink.gif After I found what I found on mine, considering the receipts I had for work that had (not) been done, I would do this anyway wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy
