My zed has got the power steering problem I have bought replacement parts and still no joy. Thing is I also run a discovery V8 and have been using that for last 3 weeks, now I know I wouldn't have used the zed in this weather but I haven't missed it. I have had the car over 10 years now and no probs but this power steering fault is getting me down, it may be the end of a beautiful relationship. I am off work next week and will give it one more look at then thats it, it can stop in the garage with a sheet over it until we sell the house and is found by the new buyers. Bit like when an old farm is bought and an old classic is found in the barn. LOL.

Sorry to hear that mate:oops:

Granted a 4x4 is invaluable in this bad weather; and my ZX is also a weekend toy. I drive a nearly new Merc SLK350 daily and it's a great car - however when I do get back in the ZX, I realize just how good a car it is.

It's a testament to Nissan getting it right all those years ago when a 16 year old Datsun can give more pleasure than one of Germany's finest new machinery!!!

I hope you can get your ZX fixed - perhaps a trip to Zedworld is needed - and hopefully you can rekindle your love of the car. I reckon you can't beat the feeling of a properly functioning 300zx.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Cheers lads , feeling a bit sorry for myself, I have changed the steering ECU, and steering rack solenoid valve and still cant get the power steering to work. The speedo works fine, I have removed the converter so really at a loss to try next. Sent a PM to Jeff asking about the whether the power steering pump is a weak spot but got no reply. As its a N/A trying to get a replacement pump is nearly impossible plus I cant afford to just keep throwing money at it in hope.

I think u can fit a TT pump to it just blank off the hicas pipes ! I would of thought if use tried everything else it only leaves the pump ...

Im not sure it'll actually be the problem, but finding a replacment NA pump should not be an issue. Plenty of NA breakers out there, I replaced my TT pump with an NA one when I removed the hicas. Put a wanted thread up if your after one, should'nt be more than £30.

I'd of expected the pump to become noisy first rather then straight failure.

The pump sounds fine, no fluid loss, belt O.K. Just at a loss as to what to try without wasting more money. Will have another go at it next week maybe try running wires from the back of the clocks straight to the ECU inputs /outputs just in case there is a break in the wiring loom. I know it may seem trivial compared to what a few people have been through with there cars and I can tackle most jobs but this is beginning to get to me.

Just an update, Jeff and Jamie at Zedworld have now sorted this for me it was a combination of things wiring and faulty steering ECU and the drive back to Grimsby was a pleasure. Thanks to all at Zedworld including Lynda for the coffee and toast. Seems to be a few new names on this site so I guess there are some owners new to the 300 zx, remember this can be a complicated car to work on, if anyone needs work on these cars think carefully before taking it to a local garage it may work out better to take it to Zedworld with there vast knowledge. Sunshine in Grimsby today so will give the car a wash and go out for a pose. Cheers.

1st time ive heard of putting an NA power steering pump on a TT when deleting the hicas??? Only reason i mention it is im abot to delete the hicas with a driftworks kit and put an NA pass pot on aswell, Is there any benefit to using an NA pump aswell????

sorry for the hijack :(
