power light keeps flashing

hi guys,

ive recentley noticed that my power light keeps flashing when i start the car, ive counted the number of flashes and i think its 15 times. i know someone else has already posted something about the power light, but after reading it iam still not sure if mine has the same problem as the symptons are different.

my speedo still works, but the small odometer (the one which only goes to 9999) displays in kph and not mph. also the stering wheel has gone off centre and slifgtly to the right, the steering seem realy heavy as well.

i think it might be the speedo converter is there any way of checking, or if anyone has any other suggestions on what it might be i would appreciate it very much

thanks

aki

Hi Aki,

When my speedo converter played up I would have HICAS and PAS for 2 minutes, and then the light for HICAS would come on and the PAS would stop working.

If this is the same issue your having then the converter is faulty.

hi leigh,

my hicas light doesnt come on at all, the power steering still works but it just seems heavy compared to other cars ive driven.

is it easy to replace the speedo converter?

But, but, but ..... Aki mentions the POWER light ... I am not aware of any diags that are specific to this light - remember it will be on imports only.

Just want to make sure we're not confusing the issue here.

From memory, the power light is the one that flashes when you do a transmission diag, and/or flashes 15 times to notify you of an error condition.

OK, so which light does a UK car use, or is it the same one but labelled differently ?

Same bulb but labelled differently I believe - possibly not labelled at all, that's how I've seen it on US cars (which don't have the power/hold option either)

On UK/Euro cars the A/T light should flash when performing a transmission diagnostic. Just about to do this on my car this afternoon. There is a good tech writeup on TTNet on the trans diag (including fault codes).

Cheers,

Danny

Defo the power light that flashes when you do an auto diag on an import. Just done mine and it showed that I could have a problem with the speed sensor which I believe from you guys could also be a problem with the converter. Is it me or do alot of people seem to be having the same problem at the moment. Perhaps a group buy on speedo converters is in order biggrin.gif

thanks for all the replies guys, it seems iam not the only person having this problem.

has anyone ever fitted a speed sensor before? is it a big job and how much do these things cost?

aki

Aki - since you mention your odometer is in kph and not mph now, my money is on speed convertor rather than speed sensor itself..

Try unwiring the speed convertor - it's not hard, you just have to basically take it out of the loop (4 or 6 wires) behind the instrument cluster.. If you take pics of the convertor and how it's wired in I can give more accurate instructions if you're not electronically minded..
