Now ive got my breaker out of the way, i started on the red zed this week.

Well, the story so far....

I bought it from a fella member on here, and its had other owners on here too.

The engine and turbos were shot.

It looked near mint in the advert, but when i went to see it i was disapointed.

It had had a full respray, but in real life, its not very good:hammer:

Other parts of the car made me walk away.

I couldn't stop thinking about it tho, so a few days later, something told me to buy it, so i did.

I thought it had some good bits on it, but after i got it home, it all seemed a bit like i'd done the wrong thing.

The wheels on closer inspection, look like they have been painted with a brush! i dont like how the spoiler sits, and the all singing all dancing alarm was a £30 ebay jobbie!

I dont want to sell it, and i fancied a project anyway, just didn't think my plans would evolve how they have!

Right, thats the end of the moaning, now the project!!

First things first, get the engine and turbos changed. I bought a pair of second hand turbos i found on ebay. Recently rebuilt, and a steal i thought at £200. Next the engine, i bought one and hired a hoist to collect it.

It must weight 3 tonne! Took 3 of us to get it in the van!

On to monday...

Im no mechanic (although i try) so i roped my mate in to helping me (he called in sick at work, good man!)

Had some bits to get off the breaker first to get it out the garage. That took a lot longer than expected, so didn't get to the red one until dark. Thought we'd just get it in the garage ready for the next morning.

Wouldn't start!!

Put it doen the the alarm fob palying up. My mate completly stripped the alarm and i still wouldn't start. It was low on fuel, so a jeery can later, still nothing! maybe the dead engine (that did drive, just smoked a misfired) has given up. Sod it, its cold, call it a day.

Tuesday.

Get the car from the back of the house to the front. In the snow!

Hooked the van up to a bit of rope, and pulled it round (slipping and sliding!)

In the garage (had to build a ramp to push it up!)

Start stripping

The new engine..

Hours later, front bumper and everyting off to get the hoist closer...

What a job!!!

Ended up taking the hole exhaust off, prop, gearbox, rad, everything. Is there an easier way??

To my horror, i found it had NO air filter, no even an air box, maybe why it blew up!

Thats how it is now.

Plans....

Scarab front bumper

Car.mad smooth side skirts

Standard 89 spec spoiler

Standard headlight gril panel

Air filter!!

Full PROPER respray (maybe white...)

Mot

Tax

Insurnace..... and then

Enjoy!

Sorry if i waffeled on, just thought i'd share my first real peice of zed ownership.

Any tip, help is welcome as to getting the engine back in!!:tank:

Good luck with it mate. Your plans sound nice and glad you haven't lost heart. Look forward to following the progress.

Hiya mate,if you had of bought a car which was perfect you would have nothing to do ,now you have a nice little project and you can get it exactly as you want it.Good luck.

I think i considered that one when i was looking to buy, it was the new paint job that intreagued me. Think distance was the main issue in the end. Good to see its not going to waste. :thumbup1:

Nice one mate, now the fun begins... If I were you I'd ditch the EGR valve off the back of your new engine, will save you time and work in the long run.

EGR Valve, Throttle body (plenum) water bypass, AIV, PRVR, Carbon Canister are the main ones. You can also remove the precats just after the turbos and replace them with elbows.

Is there a "how to" guide to removing all those?

Cheers

Got turbo elbows..

Gave the garage a tidy up today.
