engine mods helpnew member

my newly accquired tt has a fsh and 70000miles is 93 on Lreg would this engine with the mileage be ok to tune slighty if so what are the best mods im worried about the mileage being too high any advice would put my mind at rest

My car has 145,000 miles on and has no problems, 70,000 is nothing really, if you change your oil with good oil and change regulary and dont to too mad with the mods, there is no reason why your engine cant go 200,000 miles. Some in the States have gone 250,000 and are still going.

On the mods section, There is no reason why you cant put a BlitZ air filter on and a good performance exhaust. There are loads out there, I dont know too much about them, some one will tell you more. I have a Mongoose. These mode as far as I know wont do any damage as far as I know.

Next really is De-Cat your downpipes. If your car is J reg 1992 or older you can take them off legaly. If its after that, its illegal to take them off. This causes increased back pressure and could cause your turbos and turbo seals to wear down at a faster rate.

After that you are talking, chip which I know nothing about. But this is where the serious, cost start and also the engine becomes less stable.

Hope this helps

Correction - it causes *decreased* backpressure in the exhaust when you remove your cats, which is what causes more stress on the rear oil seals.

As far as the legality - yes technically illegal (for sure on UK cars) to remove the CAT on a post Aug 92 car), however I've done it on a 1994 Renault and never been stopped, and never failed an MOT.... so it's up to you..

Yeah, my friend correct me already, just cant be arsed editing, I knew some one with more sence, like you Aaron, would set me straight biggrin.gif. And its an honor to be corrected by the master

Yeah there, on most cars, not much difference in the imissions with them on or off.

If what I read was correct the Z is good for imissions for its engine size and is easly with in the reglulations. When running correctly.

But I am open to be corrected. Hehehe, Aaron? biggrin.gif

You're right it's pretty good on emmissions wink.gif

And in fact, there is a vacuum hose that can er pop off all by itself (honest guv) miraculously just before an MOT which makes the car run just nice for the MOT wink.gif

If anyone wants info on that let me know and I'll look it up, I forget the link offhand .. Might even be Maciej's website..

You taking the mick out of my spelling? mad.gif

IF SO mad.gif

Good, back the old days. biggrin.gif

P.S. I am dyslexic though. Hehehehhe, I have an exuse. biggrin.gif

Az, I think the link is on Eric's site.

Anyway, as everyone has said the engine should be fairly sound with only 70k on it, but the turbos can start to expire from 60k onwards, depending upon how well they've been treated in the past. Be VERY gentle with them when cold, let them cool down slowly and make sure they have nice clean oil. Then they should easily last to 100k and beyond (some lots more).

Stu,

If you're dyslexic then how come you can spell it ?

You're busted !!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Ahhhh, Cos i have to write it every where.!!!!!!!!!

If you're dyslexic then how come you can spell it ?

Be-sides 'IT' is only two letter I and T.

Hehehe

Mark can I just stop you there for a moment...Not wanting to sound like a moaner but,the first thing to concider is safety and your wallet.Have you any provable service history? invoices etc,do not be fooled by a stamped service book unless its backed up.Concider the timing belt, plugs, filters, oil etc.It is much easier to ensure the motor is running tip top before adding performance equipment. Then once after all the boring bits are done then you can have fun in the knowledge that the engine etc is safe.Boosting a car at your mileage that`s run stock all its life is ok providing that the aformentioned precautions have been taken. Have fun but don`t break it by short cutting. Good luck and enjoy.....Jeff TT

well said jeff. If there is anything you should do first and formost is sort out the car make sure it is nice and reliable and has no niggles. Then look at how much money your worth, cry abit and then spend it on mods biggrin.gif

A: EXHAUST/INTAKE

B: ECU UPGRADE

C: INJECTORS/INTERCOOLERS

D: TURBOS

in that order

e: engine rebuild after all that lol

I have a Superchip going cheap if you want an ECU upgrade.

I hope that is supposed to be sarci, wink.gif

Superchips are really not the way to go with a 300zxtt.

I thought that provoke a response !

Isn't it JWT that give a serious discount if you return a Superchip to them when buying one of their ECUs ?

LOL....What do you cowboys know about 300zx performance parts...get back to your 'Max Power' magazines.

Let me first remind you all to watch what you say about a company under the new Deframation thread on the general forum.

Here without prejudice wink.gif is why i would not buy a superchip.

I have seen at least 5 300zx either with blown motors or severly low compression - blowing rings Ets that have been fitted withs a superchip Upgrade ECU.

Last time i looked at there Upgrade avaiables they over quoted on there HP gains - If they think im wrong i challenge them to take a completely stock 300zx with compression figures within nissan tollerance running street fuel and stock Intake / Exhuast and get the figures they quote - If they can do that i will detract my statement.

I have also seen a core dump from the ECU - I did not do this myself nor have i ever owned or inspected at workshop level a superchips ECU - on comparison to the Stock Nissan ECU for the same engine there was only difference of 1 byte in the mem - that was belived to be the top speed limiter - They may well have changed the code since then and improved it - However i have seen said evidence and have plenty of reliable sources that will testify to the same !

I personally have a JWT ECU and am very happy with it - It gives good power and i haven't heard any horror stories when run within the recommended limits - Is it better than anyone elses ECU - god knows - Test them all under the same conditions for the qualities you want to see. Everyone has different requirements !
