Been driving the zed today its low single figure outside, smells like fuel first 15 20 minutes. overfeuling because its cold? or has the fuel line in the engine bay developed a slight leak due to the cold? had that last winter just had to tighten the clips. opinions?

fuel lines leakin, main culprit is the one at the front of the engine that links the fuel rail. tighten all the clips you can see tho

yeah.... if the clips are old and crap.. you can replace them with better ones (in situ)... i.e. open them up , fit over hose, move the old ones off the end and put the new ones in their place.

 

a bitch of a job ... I did mine but the leak started again... had to replace the hose... ouch.. not a nice job at all (without the plume off).... it took me a bout 3/4 of an hours.. really fiddly as it difficult to get too but one done really worth it....

 

I also used decent clips that have nut and bolt instead of those crap ones that just have a threaded metal tape and screw... useless, if you over tighten they are gone!!!

yep, it's plenum off time to get to that bugger..

you can change it with some long nose pliers cut the old one off push one end on of the new pipe slide on the clamps then long nose pliers to fit the other end is a fiddle but as said can be done

right chaps toghtened up the clips a few of them where about a full turn or more of slack to be tighten up. think they possibly need replacing if im honest with myself. no drips from teh pain in the ass one. fired teh car up and it deffinatly smelt alot less, but was still there so i think its new fpr time. my sense of smell is rubbish unfortunatly, but it was def teh only wet thing i found and the wet smelt like feul

Its the one under the fpr that you cant see that leaks most. Take off the ventre trim to see under it. It's due to the rubber shrinking when cold and old! When the engine gets a bit of heat it seals again

under the fpr? any one got a photo? must of missed that one :s the fpr itself is wet with feul tho in anyevent so i assume needs replacing

No. The fpr is on the rhs of the trim over the throttle cable cover trim when facing the engine approx between back two cylinders. You can see two hoses onto it but not the one directly below it. It goes down to the fuel rail and its the one that leaked on mine. You need to take off the trim to get under it with a screwdriver or small socket to tighten it. It can make people change the FPR when there is nothing wrong with it. People make the mistake of just tightening what they can see.

thankyou for the tip willieo. il have another peak i sent fair while out there this evening witha spot light an dthe throttle cover off i may have already got it but il check again. def gotta change the fpr in any event

had to replace the clip on the front fuel pipe on the fuel rail this evening as it started to leak again this morning. was able to do it in situ with a screwdriver wedging open the throttle through the cruise control lever. a fiddly pig of a job but hopefully it will be ok now :)

id say fuel pressure regulator as well, its where mine is leaking from, and it was also the one that was leaking on artztogos car when i chased and sorted his fuel leak out. its not a hard job. just be warned though about tightening clips as a means to stop a fuel leak. Artztogos was leaking due to over tightening of the clips, it dug into the rubber and caused the leak to become worse over time.

 

Id rather replace rubber tubing than tightening to be perfectly honest.

yea, ive had that before with rubber gaskets on fuel tanks. im gonna rip the old crap out and replace it with nice shinny braided stuff and a new fuel filter etc at some point only started since the big freeze lol. any ideas on who seels or price on the fpr

i very much doubt you will need to buy a new fpr, just replace the small fuel hose under it running to the injector rail.

hrm its the actual fpr tahts got feul on it. thr little flange taht gopes round its body its seems to be seeping out from there
