Leather wipes clean ;)

The gti tdi u put a link upto is the 115bhp they feel so slow compared to the 130,, i would get a 130 then get the £20 chip off bay & it puts it up to 145/150 bhp with more torque & better fuel economy... I much prefer the look of the bora & there is some nice subtle kits out there for them to make them stand out from the rest,

Well its sounds to me like you've decide you want a golf from reading your posts. Basically it depends what you want it for. as if your worried about the seats with your kids getting in and out, get the bora, as the gti your looking at has only three doors, so your for ever moving your seat to cram people in the back. Plus if you have the golf (other than the fact 90% of everyone you pass will be in the same car) you will rag it more because it has power but not enough to keep you happy. Where as the bora is more chilled out power, so it has plenty of power to over take with, but because its comfortable you will be less likely to use it.

So for me your comparing a subaru to a 300, and part of the reason we all have 300's is that they rarer and classy in comparison. Plus majority of people are unsure what a 300 is where as everyone knows what a subaru is. for me I like to leave people wondering what they've just seen!

I just think I might have been a bit hasty deciding on the Borat without really looking at the alternatives.....I am undecided though, and of course with all this snow on the ground, I can't really even get out to test drive anything

Braved the snow and went to test drive the Golf GTi. 1st car I saw as I went into the car lot was a red LWB 300zx auto TT!! As if!! £3.5k on an H plate, doubt it'll be going anywhere fast.

GTi was nice, managed a decent test drive on a 3 lane A road, was nice, responsive, fast. Interior was a let down tho, previously a smoker's car, so interior was dirty, shabby in places, bits of plastic trim off and generally not as tidy as the Bora. In comparison the Bora just felt much nicer. So walked away from the Golf - and stumbled accross an S (98) reg BMW 318i 4 door saloon. 100k on clock, 12 months MOT, 6 months tax, part history, priced at £1295. Sales place was actually closed but managed to give the car quite a once over as it was unlocked. Interior was tidy, everything was original apart from it had a new CD player.

Hmmmm. Wondered if I waggled a grand in cash at the dealer if he'd want a deal. Wondering about spending a lot less than planned, and putting the balance from selling Zedward away for uni/possible fun car come summer....

My daily driver up until last year was an 02 GT TDI Golf and it was a real hot hatch! Buy anything with the VAG TDI 1.9 130 in it and you won't go wrong for performance (better than a GTI) and economy with low insurance...(Audi A3/Golf/Bora/Seat Leon) If you want performance buy the 130 6 speed and chip it...Economy beyond belief and stronger gearboxes than the 150bhp TDI's.

Thanks all. I pulled out and I am going to look at a Toyota Corolla later today, 3 roads from where I live, 1 owner, FSH, 68k, garaged - Marc's looked and said its a decent solid car. It'll do the job, its a Toyota. Its almost half the price of the Bora and Golf, its the 1.4vvti, so its mega cheap to tax, £250 fully com insurance with £150 total excess and protected no claims. Bit of a no brainer really. Ugly as sin in a 5 door but a nice bit of savings for me to put away for uni, take my girly on holiday etc next year.

Head ruling heart for now. Yawn

lol!!! Gutted :lol::lol:

ITs not a pretty car but its cheap, mega reliable, low mileage, cheap taxand insurance, ticks all the boxes really - and leaves me a bit of savings should I feel the urge for something fun come the summer.....:innocent:

Sounds like you've sold it to yourself! Good luck with the purchase, there good engines you shouldn't have any probs.
