HICAS - failure !!

I've just found out my rear wheel steering isn't functioning.

Anyone experienced this and found a solution, without writing a blank cheque to Nissan !!

Depends on what's causing the failure...bit like asking how long a piece of string is without more detail on exactly what has failed!

Also depends largely on whether you value having HICAS on your Z??? You can buy a HICAS eliminator kit which takes it out of the equation all together! Alot cheaper if it's gone West big time. wink.gif

Have you tried the HICAS diagnostic http://www.ttzd.com/tech/hicastech.html .

That may narrow down the problem(it may take a few tries to get it to work)

No idea whats wrong. I had chronic tyre wear at back so was getting things checked and found that the steering wasn't working at all at the rear. Will try out the Hicas diagnostics as suggested.

If you use the HICAS elimination kit, does it affect your tyre wear ?

how did you work out that it is not working ?

you cannot actually see the wheels turn in any normal operation, it is not like a honda 4 wheel steer system...

the only time you will see them turn is if you are in hicas diag mode

are you sure it is not actually working ?

also, as the amount that the wheels turn is so imperceptibly small, if the track rods are worn (inner or outer), then you wont actually get any benefit from it and the amount of play would cause tyre wear

I was told it wasn't working when I went to get alilgnment done. Like you say, I wasn't convinced he knew as he made the decision so quickly.

Got into diagnostic mode and could see the wheels move, and think I got a Parking sensor error - if I read it right.

7 short flashes, 1 longer, 1 short follwed by really long, then repeats.

Will that be code 11 or 71? or 72?

Code 11 is

11. HICAS control unit.

The HICAS has been disabled on my car. When I bought it, the person said that it broke but wanted loads to fix it. The next option was to disable it. That was done but the rear suspention was updated too. Some people say that disableing it mnakes the car handle better. Between certain speeds the HICAS is great, but becomes a burden at others.
