tried to change the three belts to get rid of a dreadful squeek, but the new ones that i was given wouldn't fit. they were to small, i can't remember the exact lengths now but i will find them out. so does anyone know the belts that i need? its a jap spec TT G plate model if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Hi, if you give Jeff, Jamie or Linda a bell at ZedWorld, they will post them out to you. I know this sounds like a dull question...but I take it you have loosened off the alternator and power steering tensioners when you tried to get the new belts on?

You may have the belts for an aftermarket under drive pulley, which are smaller.

i wouldn't know if my pully's were aftermarket. all the tensioners were loosened, the power stearing one was a bit of an arse to shift but got there in the end. i think two of them were actually too big, but one was really small. got them from andrew page (not sure if its a national company) but he seemed to know the type of car so as far as he knew they were the right ones.

after all the chew of getting the old lnes off, i then had to put them back on. it stopped the squeak for the short tearm so the tunnel run went ok last night, but today its started again.

I'll have to give zedworld a ring and have a word.

squeaky belt tends to be a loose belt. just make sure you don't over tighten the one going to the water pump as this can lead to it failing, and you will have to remove all the belts again to refit a new one. with tightness, i go by if i can twist the belt in between pulleys. if it twists half way and wont go any further, then its tight enough.

the belt sizes that we had were 1000-1100mm for the altanator which was too big, 962mm for the aircon allso too big and the p.a.s was 862 which was too small. couldn't even mix and match them to fit.

They were all apropreatly tight when we put it back together, the p.a.s one was a little worn, but nothing too harsh.

how would i know if my pully's were aftermarket or not?

Its normally the underdrive pulley (bottom on the crank) thats changed, has no timing marks on it and likely to be stainless colour or coloured. Unless some of the other pulleys have been changed. Get some pics up.
