911 996 carrera 4 cabriolet with a nice gt2 front bumper

or 911 996 turbo coupe

or SL55 amg merc

i dont want to spend a lot on one say £20k

i love the wow factor of the cabriolet

What do you want the new one for long motorway cruises and everyday use or more for driving enjoyment?

Personally I'm not a fan of merc's but the SL55 AMG is nice but more of a motorway cruiser

whereas a 911 is drivers car which you can use everyday and for blast round a track

everyday use in the summer and driving enjoyment, not many motorway cruises at all mostly a and b roads

Agreed /\

i really do like the look of the turbo the rear arches and it just looks so mean but then i do like the top off when its sunny

the 996 c4s cab would be nice but its a little to expensive,

the skyline gtr again an awsome car but i do rather like the porsche instead sorry lol!!

Its a nice thought to have to top down, but your forgetting your in wales! 99% of the time it will be raining or too cold to put roof down

Would deffo go for 996 turbo, but dont think would get one for 20k....

Agreed!

25/30k and that would be rare

Finding it hard to get a SL55 under 20K, you will get a SL500 for that £17095 on a 03 plate

Good luck on that budget...

996 Turbo defo the pick of the bunch, but you're scraping the bottom of the barrel at 20k.

I'd have a rethink a get something where you're not looking for the cheapest available, pretty big costs on those kind of cars..

Oh, and anyone who buys a 911 cabrio should wear lipstick..:winkiss:

Just thought you should know:whistling:

thanks guys i know its the bottom of the barel for the turbo there about 23k min with about 75k miles the repair costs are stratospheric on them according to the forums, the amg again yep bottom of the market again but it wil be april next year when i make my purchase i have my shares coming out then hopefully they will have dropped a little then

anyone seen the 996 to 997gt2 conversion you can buy would love that on a cabriolet

993-996/7?

Are you mental? 993 was far better looking than any current porsche. 993 Turbo was the zenith of 911 design. If you actually go through with this, I will hunt you down, dawg! There are laws against this kind of thing, cruelty against cars etc.

I've heard many a good thing about 964's - have you considered a retro themed 911 instead? That would be a little more feasible financially. But they do have a bit of an image problem to the uninformed (i.e a bit 80's).

But there are a few benefits too - mechanically simpler, greater reliability and cheaper to fix too (and classic insurance).

Have to agree. Had a 993 turbo for a couple of years. Best car Ive ever had. A thing of absolute beauty. A good one still about £40k tho...

cabrio loks like an orthapedic clog in my opinion ...the coupe is timeless and a drivers car

the Merc is too "owner of a hairdressing chain" to my eyes as said the 993 turbo is the one to have

whoa thats a gorgeous 993 have to say since i saw the first bad boys film he had a 993 that was timeless and just awsome

arghhh what to do im looking at porsches everyday do like the turbo 996 but one forum said they had a repair bill of 14k for the engine but then after doing up the zed im sure i could sort most things out with the porsche!!

cabriolet is great looking i thing sorry guys lol but i will be keeping the zed dont worry too much time money and effort on it to give it away lol

OMFG - Bloody beautiful, the best colour as well - uber :cool3:

So whats the crack FastredZ? You keeping the Zed and forgetting a new toy? Or are you just stating that you will be keeping the Zed in addition to the new car?

Take it the 964 didn't do anything for ya?

What about a Boxster? You can get a good one for 20k and its the best handling car porsche have ever made. You can also buy a turbo kit for about 6k which makes em quicker than a turbo... SHame it has 'the visual tension of a bar of soap (quote: evo mag)'

If I had 20k burning a hole in my pocket, I'd spend as little as poss on good car and spend the change tuning it. But then again, I don't have 20k (and probably never will:crying:).

Cheers

The SL55 is probably seriously underated as a performance car for those that havnt driven one - it has endless grunt & goes like the clappers!

What car magazine tested one against some serious italian exotic machinery a few years back & it blew the competition (& the testers) away pretty much! LOL!

Fairly pricey to maintain when things go wrong but they are pretty much fully loaded cars! Regular servicing work is pretty cheap & straightforward however

If you want to know anything more specific on the Merc or want me to check any history on a car then let me know as I work for Mercedes ;)

You could always go really silly & get one of these: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200940342987254/sort/priceasc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/5lplus/price-from/15000/model/sl_class/make/mercedes-benz/page/10/radius/1501/postcode/ct20ad/keywords/amg?logcode=p

The AMG65 - a 6 litre twin turbo V12 with enough torque to stop the planet from spinning!! :punk:

If the Turbo is out of budget, then I'd go for the Regular 996 Coupe , perhaps with GT3 kit.

..or the 993, that is ^^^^^ Very nice.

i have been thinking for a while now of another car so far my choices are

911 996 carrera 4 cabriolet with a nice gt2 front bumper mid life beetle

or 911 996 turbo coupe mid life beetle

or SL55 amg merc really?? (Okay i can almost see the appeal for the engine noise)

i dont want to spend a lot on one say £20k

What you want is a real mans car:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201037368180507/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/make/tvr/page/2/radius/1500/postcode/la29pw?logcode=p

:D:D:D Although i would actually have a cerbera but thats personal choice.

Or if you stretch your budget a little.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201042370879006/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/m6/make/bmw/radius/1500/page/1/quicksearch/true/postcode/la29pw?logcode=p

:D

And a little more you could have a new v8 m3... but i would have an M5 or m6 before them.

TVR

Havn't laughed so much in ages.. he wants a car he can drive lol!

Not one that looks funny inbetween trips to the garage.

But - how shocking is the depreciation on an M6? 24k - thats peanuts compared to the list price. Good value in those terms, its a lot of car.

Btw... cerbera is a great looking car.

TVR

At no point did he say he wanted to drive said car ;) But yes I admit not the most reliable however they arnt so bad depends if its got to be a daily or not!

And oh good god arnt they a bargain, have a look at an M5 as well, they can be had for 18+ Interesting though that although the list differed by 20 grand or so, they have almost matched each other on resale. Just shows how good the M5 is at being a "normal" car compared to the M6. I still know which i prfer though.

Btw... cerbera is a great looking car.

One of my all time dream cars, i couldnt count how many times ive been trhough piston heads and autotrader looking at cerberas, saving pictures and doing insurance quotes. I just couldnt do it to my self, as it would ruin my life. When im earning 50k+ i'll have one... LOL

oh that made me laugh, there was ayoung guy down the local oval a while back reving his tvr, my mate had a word in his ear and explained they dont like that etc etc and his tvr will not last long like that. well it didnt last till the end of the night POP

  • Author

had a good look at a tvr but in the end its just a fiberglass body and the fit and finish wasnt that good but damn they do look awsome dont they
