Fuel Filter

My fuel filter (assuming thats what is is, it's the siver thing with pipes in and out, top RHS of engine bay from front) does something a little odd, and just wondering of anyone gets the same..

Ever since I've had the car, it seems to make a pretty obvious 'gurgling' noise - you can hear it from both inside and out. Has always done this, but now seems to be getting a little worse.

Anyine had the same?? Is it time to go Mr Bank Manager??

Are you *sure* it's from the fuel filter?

Does the gurgle go away when you're not at idle?

If it's only at idle, I'd put money on it being the AIV reed valve assembly that's full of water - common problem.. A case of disassemble, dry, reassemble - possibly drilling a small drain hole at the lowest part of the assembly..

It's quite simple to replace if you think it has a problem, many people in the states change the fuel filter every 30k so it might be an idea to replace yours. I dont think they are that expensive.

Go here to see the how-to on replacing the fuel filter http://www.ttzd.com/tech/fuelfiltertech.html

Have you noticed a loss of performance with this gurgling noise to suggest that your not getting enough fuel or does it drive like normal?

The filter is an easy change.

Cost was £16.54 from a local motor factors.

It that a filter with an appropriate pressure rating and flow ? I don't think the pukka Nissan one costs much different to that.

Cheers guys for replies so far.....

No, it does it the whole time, right from start-up, at idle and when driving.

Performance doesn't seems to be affected, however and this is what makes it curious.

The exact sound it probably just the fuel running through it, but certain it shouldn;t be making this noise.

This might sound silly, but the exact sound is just like the sound you get if you drink something with a straw and you get towards the bottom of the drink... as if air is being pulled through too.... very weird, yet she seems to drive fine.

Anyway as per advice I think the best thing is for me to initially disassemble and reassemble and see if it cures. If not, the replacement procedure seems straight forward enough.

Andy,

Yes It's a Blueprint item they are guaranteed OE spec, and manufactured in Japan.

Just my factors are closer than the local Nelson mandella smile.gif

Im with Aaron on this one - Never heard a fuel filter Gurgle - The AIV's on the other hand make that exact sound and are located in close proximity to the Fuel filter.

You can disable the AIV's if you want they are not needed in this country. But i would just live with the sound if i was you
