just went to take the Mrs and little one up to mcdonald, heading up the A45 doing 50, next thing you know revs shot up out of the blue boost hit and in the blink of an eye the rear went, corrected the first part, but then the snap back got me and the back end spun out, after a brief moment of facing on coming traffic, i see the central reservation barrier approaching, so turned the wheel to get the rear to take the hit. by this point car had slowed to around 30mph when the rear passenger side took the hit.

Trying to find the camera memory card. but passenger side exhaust is fooked. and the rear passenger side panel has taken damage to the out side panel only. i know it was wet so was taking extra care due to my air filter being out in the mouth of my 99spec bumper. haven't got a clue what i touched on the road but it was like ice. but not cold enough to be ice.

Well looks like I'm going to be doing some body repairs now. or do i see what the insurance say about it? going to go find my memory card now and get some pictures.

:( so glad that no one was hurt. Mrs is a bit shuck up as the little one was in the back. If the car wasn't lowered, would of only been rear bumper damage.

Nice to know that everyone behind me just drove on with out even stopping to see if anyone was OK.

Hi ya dave, ill be changing the bumper tomorrow, sorting out the exhausts so there semi straight and i might pop over, biggest problem i have is getting power down to the car to do anything. i can get the parts i need off my breaker to repair it, damage depending, but i cant weld for crap. so even if i manage to get the panels i need to repair off the car. sticking them on, im going to be stumped lol

Hi Ian,

Sorry to see that mate - but I'm so glad that you, Tess and the little one are OK.

I really hope you can get it sorted with little fuss - especially as you had gotten so far with your new toy as well!

Like Graham says, it doesn't look too bad and should be fairly straight forward to fix.

I hope so mate, i think there is some hidden damage under the bumper, but im hoping its not too bad, i know the insurance will right her off if i ring them, but they also have the self repair part of the policy to consider. so depending what the damage is like tomorrow once i can see the full picture, will depend if i ring them up or not.

Seriously mate - Give Andy a ring - I'm sure his breaker is the identical colour... it's gotta be a decent option to get a new rear quarter panel and exhaust..

The problem is going to be removing the rear quarter panel mate they are welded on, not bolted and will probably distort with a cutting torch and then it will be a ball ache to refit

Do you have an agreed value and buy back option on the car?? could be beneficial to find out.

'kin 'ell mate, I am so sorry. EXACTLY the sam happened to me last month, if you remember my post about my zed getting outta line - except I was fortunate enough to be the only car on the road and the road was wide enough for me to manage to avoid the impact, but if there'd been anything in the outside lane I would have totally spun out and hit it.

Like you said, important thing is that no-one was hurt but even so, an absolute ball ache.

Must be the day for crap happening because it is, apparently, mischief night tonight and as such, some little scrotes put a great big hole in my front window :cursing::cursing:

Was gonna go out for one last night drive in the zed tonight but its hidden away in the garage, I daren't take it out :censored:

But then you'll lose no claims and bump your premium up.

I'd look into the repair first..

Nope, its covered for 3500, but not agreed, so will be book price. what ever that is. i have no idea about claiming on insurance as I've never had to before.... if i claim then the car becomes there's, i haven't seen any thing in the insurance this time with lynbrook to say about buy back options, which is strange as it had that on the silver and the black zed. i want to repair not replace. might be more ball ache than its worth, but I'm fed up with fixing cars for them to bugger off on me.

If you can get to Birmingham, i'll get my mate to do it at the right price..

it drives fine, there is no damage to the sub frame, rear suspension, or wheels, its just that tiny corner area. let me get the rear bumper off, get some photos up and see what Boldy thinks. id like his opinion on it as i trust him.

Pab i would contact Andy, but i have a spare car in the garage with all the panels i need to fix her. no point spending out cash on parts i already have just because of the paint color. the car needs a respray anyway mate.

Only thing I'm missing is my left exhaust back box.

Ahh - i see - just goes to show how much i know :1eye:

glad you and your family are safe and sound.

sometimes when i read these posts it seems all zeds do this, as mines done it a few times with no warnings whatsoever, anyway could have been worse, hope you get it sorted with the least amount of hassle.

I think from memory the rear quarters are almost impossible to buy and are very very hard to fit on these. When I had my car bare metal resprayed I looked into it and ended up going for new arches instead.

Its probably an insurance write off, but TBH im sure you could get most of it out with a spot weld dent puller. A lot of the damage is around the light so you will have good access to the worst of the dent when it is removed.

Anyhows I have a spot weld dent puller if you want to borrow it along with the slide hammer etc.

Max that is a very nice offer, but i have no idea how to use one so i didn't make it worse lol unless you wouldn't mind popping up with it and lending a hand?

cant get the bumper off at the moment, as its raining :( but have tried to get the exhaust back to where its supposed to be, think i need a longer bar, as i need more leverage. looks like the exhaust got crushed into the side of the car that follows the lines of the bumper so more damage than what i first thought, not sure its repairable unless i get it on a jig to be pulled straight. StellaZ that guy that did your M3 have you got a number for him?
