tuning

what is involved with the different stages of tuning, ie stage1, stage2 etc. i am looking at buying a zx with a stage two tune. does this include ecu upgrade and what boost does it run?

also how safe is this for engine and gear box?

those stages are very unclear and can be anything.

just ask what upgrades it has.

if it has the chip + upped boost (usually around 1 bar) and it is an automatic, make sure it has an extra oil-cooler for the transmission.

If it's a manual and it still has the standard clutch, it will probably go very soon. (depends on how you drive it) and you'll need an upgraded clutch.

Apart from that it's pretty safe..

stage 2 is most liely an uprated intake and an uprated exhaust, this allowing the engine to breathe batter, allowing for further mods. houldnt really reduce the life of any components substancially

all i know is that he has not had it chipped, the boost upgrade was done when the turbos were replaced. the gearbox has not been touched and he sais that it is putting out 340bhp?

is this ok, what sort of presure would it be running? he said it was done by somebody on this forum

Stages differ by different compaines i believe. I dont use stages as they have to many variables.

find out if exhaust is doen intake and ecu that is a rough basic upgrade for these cars

Boost upgrade with no chip??? Be carefull!!! The standard ecu won't take more than about 11psi boost due to its fuel maps(safely wink.gif)...

Staging is a wierd thing, some say Breather is stage 1, breather and exhaust stage 2, etc ... its all symantecs anyway. Find out what has been done and check yer insurance company policy on modification - the single biggest issue when modifying is NOT power upgrade nor component lifespan its insurance.

Tell em and policy goes thru the roof, dont tell em and when you knock someone off their bike and kill em your insurance company wont pay for their kids upbringing - nasty.

Just my two penneth smile.gif

Im not quite sure why Im ranting and raving, Ill get back in my box now wink.gif

:)

He doesent have an exhaust, but does have an air filter. The boost has been put up to give 340bhp? what sort of pressure would he be running to achieve this power?

About 12.5 - 14 ish. You shouldn't go above this on a standard chip unless you are either foolish, brave or rich (preferably all three!)

Incidentally, there is a list of stages defined in several places, like the Stillen site and the Aus forum - http://216.119.125.120/forum/stages.htm

But as has been said before these are largely arbitary.
