SMELL OF FUEL

PROBLEM IN THE MORINING WITH A STRONG SMELL OF PETROL GOES WHEN GETS WARM.ANY IDEAS

Featured Replies

Open the bonet and you can see the fuel pump at the top right of the engine. The big silver round thing. At least I think it is the pump.

Anywhy there are about2 pr 3 tubes coming out of it, get a flat head screwdriver and tighten up all the clips on those pipes. Follow the pipes and tighten up ever one, there are about 10 or so to do.

I did it to mine, it didnt get rid of the smell straight away so dont worry. It took a week or so before the smell completley went.

I think the big silver thing is the fuel filter and it should have one pipe in and one pipe out. But yes, tighten all the clips up - this is quite common due to the cold causing the parts not to seal perfeclty, when they warm up they fit better....

I am sure my one had 2?

one for petrol in on and one for out!

Yep, big silver thing is the filter...get steel braided hoses, only cure IMHO! wink.gif

Follow the pipe from the fuel filter to a black plastic thingy between the 2 rear intake pipes on rhs when standing at the front facing the car (ie nearside side UK)That black thingy is the fuel pressure regulator. It looks like it has one hose going in and one out but if you get really close you can see another directly underneath it heading down - thats the blighter that was leaking on mine - you couldnt see it cos the fuel runs down the hose that goes down. Real bitch to get to the hose clip too. On a real cold morning if you looked under you could see the fuel pissing out from under the engine / bellhousing.

Other possibilities are underneath the V6 3000 trim panel over the throttle cables - take it off and look at small hose conns while you pressure up just by turning the ignition on - you can see the big hoses from the fuel filter actually stiffen up with pressure.

another tip is when replacing the hoses with jubilee clips make sure you use the correct size clips.

From my post above "It looks like it has one hose going in and one out but if you get really close you can see another directly underneath it heading down - thats the blighter that was leaking on mine - you couldnt see it cos the fuel runs down..."

The fuel runs into the space under the intake manifold. That little short hose approx 4" long tops from under the FPR was leaking at both ends. It goes to the metal pipe rail for the injectors so gets the 40 or 50psi.

Fixed it this time properly - no more smell - you could actually see the fuel vapour rising from it even when warmed up - just so much heat that it dissapeared as fast as it came out.

Hey MAC 1 do you have a braided hose in there too under the FPR?

WillieO Yes all of them have been done wink.gif.

All sounds like good advise.

it usually comes down to the hoses.

your best bet is to replace them with OE

hoses from your nissan dealer.

also don't ever use jubilee style hose clamps. these are not high pressure clamps

and do seal correctly.

Again use OE clamps from nissan..

Steal sheaf hoses are no better than nissan hoses , in fact can be worse in many cases i have seen . due to poor fitment. beware.
