More Autobox woes...

As suspected, my autobox is starting to go tits-up. It's not up-shifting when it should.

Anyone know the best route to get a replacement? "Factory" reconditioned from Nissan? Is it a DIY job?

Ta.

I will have a spare Jap spec 1992, Series II autobox sometime within the next month or so as mine is being converted to manual. It had already had the SE fast road rebuild and upgrade around 20,000 miles ago together with the uprated oil cooler and is absolutely 100% perfect. However, there seems to be a short queue forming, but you may get third shout if you're interested at the time.

I've had a re-build quote from a local company "who specialise in imported Japanese automatic transmissions" - £1100.

Does this sound OK? Seems an awful lot to spend at once, but then it's a Z, isn't it...

That is around the same as SE charge for a basic rebuild. IMO it is worth getting the fast road upgrade- it makes gear changes faster and more positive. MAC 1, Hairsy(?) and a few others will I'm sure back me up on this.

I checked with them - their quote includes "tweaks" and fitting of an extra oil cooler (instead of radiator cooler, I assume).

I may go for it anyway - unless Nissan can get me a rebuilt one for significantly less...
