Hi Guys, this is a fairly common problem on these cars.

I have a light steering wheel shake under braking. It occurs at any speed and under any load of braking. It seems more noticable under light braking at around 30/40mph.

Had this problem on/off since buying the car.

I have changed:-

The rack bushes

ARB bushes

Droplinks

Tension rod bushes (new OEM's)

Brakes (brand new K-sport 330mm kit)

Track rod ends.

Took my car to a garage this morning who put the car on shaker plates, but couldn't find any play said suspension was all ok.

Put the car on the brake rollers and said was a slight inbalance, but the rears were worse. He suggested getting the discs skimmed on the car, but I'm not convinced, its a brand new top quality kit, shouldn't have to do that. My wheels are correctly torqued and balanced.

Like I said, this wobble has been on/off since buying the car 3 years ago, would like to get it sorted.

Just feel the shaker plates weren't thrashing the suspension enough to show up this problem and the mechanic wasn't overly bothered, just passing it off as a brake problem.

Any suggestions welcome.:)

What pads are you using? Tracking might be out, mine was and had shaking under braking, sorted now. So get the geometry done, may cure the problem.

Mine had shaking under breaking at 30-40mph and i had to rebuild the callipers and Put renew the break fluid and that cured the problem.

Double check that the sub-frame bolts are tight up, i had the same problem, the previous owner's mechanic hadn't tightened them up properly and the whole thing dropped off 3 of the bolts at 70mph pulling the steering wheel clean off its brackets inside!

(Batanbunny) did you get my second email, about the interior.

sorry for the thread hijack, but ive no other way to contact you.

Dont rule out the discs, even though new, it can only take a single spirited drive followed by sitting at a stop(traffic light) with your foot on the brake pedal to cause such symptons.

Commonly known as a "warped disc" although more typically caused by uneven pad material residue on the disc, or actual disc damage itself (crack or collapsed veins).

I would get the car jacked up and check everything though , Inc subframe. ,caliper and all arm bolts. Do you have wheel spacers ?

Is it possible that a warped rear disc could cause a slight shake thru the steering wheel due to the diagonal braking setup cars operate under. If you know what I mean. If a rear disc is warped, the rear pistons will be pulsing and this might feed back to the opposite front caliper because of the fluid movement. I don't know, just a possibility?

I don't have any spacers on the car BTW.

Hello. I am new to this forum and would like to ask for a bit of advice. I see this is a very old thread however my problem sounds fairly similar to this.

My car has got bigger front brakes than standard, a previous owner has had a large set of skyline calipers fitted and it has been that way for over 10 years. I have had the wobble now for a few years and its the 3rd set of disks we are on now (they have been changed to rectify the problem). I have not done extensive problem solving myself yet but I plan to now.

The one time the problem was eliminated was when i had the disks skimmed on a machine whilst on the car. This fixed it for a few thousand miles. Unfortunatly its back and worse than ever, worst when under heavy braking, hot and high speed.

has anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks,

Fran

Thanks Gaz,

I wish it where that simple. But each time have put new disks on the wobble continues, its only when the new disks are skimmed on the car that it goes away (temporarily).

Does kind of points to hub run out, having them machines on the car will negate the run out until the disc starts to wear again, could be also a caliper fitment issue, ensure the correct bolts are been used and no spacers or washers wrongly fitted under the brackets.
