On the power upgrade path after stage 3 (intake, exhaust, ECU), the next step appears to be a Boost Controller.

The JWT ECU comes with Boost Calibration Jets. Does the Boost Controller replace the Calibration Jets?

What is the advantage of a Boost Controller? Are there different types, and which ones do what additionally, etc...?

The JWT calibration jets limit the boost to 12.5 bpi (13.5 bpi flash). On a stock engine, it is "normal" to keep things down to under 1 bar - if so, what does a Boost Controller offer, etc...?

Any help, advice or pointers on this subject would greatly help my understanding. This is a grey area for me. Thanks, Geoff

Z Mods...

Most can and probably will rattle on for hours mate about all the different ones, however in my experience most can't even tell you how their own controllers work coz most controllers are so bloody complex wink.gif AVC-R is the classic example! biggrin.gif

Hi Geoff

I am just venturing down this road and have ordered a Blitz Dual SBC with indiglo display from Johnny @ GPS. This gadget doesn't look too over the top and should do the job.

All I need now is a chip!

Oh and in answer to your question yes the bc replaces the jets AFAIK.

Cheers

Martin

Slightly off topic but how much typically does a JWT chip add to insurance premiums? and then on top a boost controller. I have the exhaust and intake - they added about £30 each.

Willie

I have the AVC-R, it does that job and has load of gadgets, mine is fine, I'm happy with it...

BUT, I've heard of several displays going and the plastic filter breaking that joins to the boost pressure sensor. Also the boost sensor doesn't take well to water. It's not the best quality and I wouldn't buy one again, I would instead look at something like the HKS / Blitz boost controllers.

You should really get a remapped chip like the JWT, which comes with the boost jets. Yes, the controller replaces the jets. (AVOID SUPERCHIPS).

A controller lets to safely set and monitor the maximum boost. My AVC-R can also self learn to get it more spot on for different climates etc. It has a couple of very useful features like setting the max boost for each gear.

Everyones premium is so different you will have to phone around to work that one out! Having mods you often have to choose completely different insurers.

Good luck!

Yes you are correct - especially pertinant in this country as i have tried tunning 1bar boost thru Jan/Feb and it aint pretty !

Lots of different types - if you arent Technically minded i STRONGLY suggest you get the HKS EZevc - All you do is dial in the boost you want and that is what you get - no messing with Duty Cycles Etc etc. AVC-r can be very confusing if you dont know what you are doing

Yes if you have boost jets you will need to remove them when using a EVC. you will also need to remove the stock BCSV's.

Yes on Stock Fuel - DO NOT run over 14psi of boost or you will blow a piston ! The advantage with a boost controller is you can turn the boost down when the conditions are bad OR turn the boost up easily when you upgrade components or switch to Race gas or whatever.

Hope that answers yuor questions .
