great work mate, cant wait to see that color on the car

ive been thinking about skirts lately (ooer missus lol), you know the back where there is a gap between the skirt and the sill's, would it be possible to fill with expanding foam to keep the muck and water out, it is sandable and paintable

just wondering if it is a good idea or not?

just noticed, are you deleting the side repeaters, ive done this on my spare wing but not sure if i should do it or not as im unsure about where i would put the side repeater or if i would get away without them, 99 spec front btw.

ps keep up the good work

I was thinking the same when i did mine, but was advised that it ws best not too. One reason is the MOT examiner needs access to the sills and two expandable foam will soak up water and eventually rot the sills.

I did try and do this last week , shook the can well sprayed up into the skirt and waited for it to start expanding but it hardly did !!! don,t know whether it was the temperature or perhaps something either in the glass fibre or the shultz that reacted and stopped it !! just got a bit of a lumpy mess now , good job it,s not seen :blush:

think you have to wet the area first mate, but it could have reacted

would be a good way to keep the crap from building up

i used it to fill the brake light holes and so on when i removed my spoiler and fitted the smooth tailgate skin, worked a treat

I,ve bought a used pair of those cheap plastic M3 style mirrors with repeaters in to canabalise , i,m gonna cut the section with the repeater in and try and join and blend it into the standard mirror , hey presto ( hopefully ) trick mirrors

This sort of thing

As an MOT tester you can only "test what you see" - you could stick some outer sill covers over some nast rotten sills & we would have to pass it. We are not allowed to remove permenant fixings or scrape away at thick underseal covering rot either! We can only tap lightly with our feeble plastic "corrosion assessment tool" to see if we think some bodging b******d has filled it with filler or sealant LOL!

If in doubt then it should be passed with an advisory.

Dont go getting any ideas for bodging tho! :nono:

Yeah i was a bit concerned about trapping moisture behind the foam and it causing corrosion problems exactly what you trying to stop !

ive just used a thick stone gaurd, its the type you screw onto the bottom of a spray gun, i reckon if you covered the foam filler with this and coat a few times it would seal it in

what id be doing is trying to create a flat area so any muck would just fall off instead of sitting in all the tight crevasis?

Aint' ya done that yet??:tt2:

It is a pity that the skirts don't reach the flanges (like my old ones) would save a lot of hassle!:ninja:

Seriously dude as said today that will look the nads when done!:thumbup1:

I still think you need a t/gate skin tho'!

That looks fantastic, youve obviously got some good skills with bodywork. Am in same process with my side skirts now ,but it doesnt look anything as smooth as you have acheived.

i bought a new ish audi wing mirror to use but i didnt use it in the end. the ones i would really like are off the very latest audis, they are a thin strip, perhaps about 8mm wide that runs across the mirror and they look nice, ive painter my mirrors now though.

might try to mount something very small under the mirror as a bit of a gesture

Just a point,if fitting a 99 spec you don't need repeaters(so my mot guy said!)

You can see the indicator at a certain angle so it's o.k.:chinese:

Hmm, thought about this before but have never checked actually - to be considered a "wrap around" lens the lamp needs to have an "E" marking on it or be visible by standing a meter out from the rear bumper - if light is visible from the lamp then it is fine:

Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side.

Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens. Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an ‘E’ mark in a circle or an ‘e’ mark in a rectangle above which is a number 5.

However, some vehicles are fitted with a wraparound lens with no European approval markings. These can be tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicle’s rear bumper with the indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable.

Did you grind back the top of the skirts to remove some material or did you fill straight over as is?

I remember you talking to me about doing this at JAE and after seeing the reuslts so far, you made a good choice.
