I am trying to make room for a full size battery in my engine compartment. The previous battery, now dead, was the wrong type being too small and only just man enough to start the car. The problem now is the Hornet car alarm siren is taking up the space needed. How easy is it to relocate the siren unit? If I cut the wires when the alarm is unarmed will it set the alarm off? Actually I would like to remove the siren altogether [it goes off always at the wrong time when voltage drops] and just use the keyless entry and engine immobiliser, is this possible?

Once you cut the wires to the siren then how can the alarm go off with the siren severed in your hand :clown:

Just extend the wires and re locate, mine is under the front nose panel :balloon:

because all thatchem alarms have a back-up siren battery otherwise all thieves would do is rip out the sirens!

Agreed, unless the back up battery is dead, easiest way to check is disconnect the car battery, if the siren goes off, its back up is good, if it doesn't, might be time to get the siren overhauled. easiest place to put it is up by the cruse control unit near the drivers side of the window (basically opposite the battery)

from Hellraiser - because all thatchem alarms have a back-up siren battery otherwise all thieves would do is rip out the sirens!

That’s why I asked about cutting the wires. The siren does have a back up battery and it is fairly new so perhaps this is a silly question how do I move it? If the system has not been activated will the alarm go off if cut and conversely when reconnected will it register being tampered with? Perhaps understandably the alarm company wouldn’t tell me but want £80 to come and re fit the alarm.

Does it have a valet mode? if so stick it in valet mode, deactivate the alarm as per normal, and then cut the wires. should be fine with that. if not, ware ear defenders and move it quickly lol

Valet mode brilliant!!! I will read up on how to put the code in, yes that should do it. I am in enough trouble with the neighbours I had a blown exhaust for a few days till replacing it. The noise set their car alarm off on several occasions so I am trying to keep a low profile and keep quiet.

thats what i did :) but if its a clifford valet can be activated via the fob.

keep a towel handy aswell - they shut sirens up quite well if they do go off lol. I had a clifford that cocked up on my xr3i lol

mine is located behing the passenger side wheel arch linig, inside the wing (i didn't put it there) was knackered from water damage when i got the car, but i repaired it, cleaned all the crud out the wing and fitted it better....
