I'm well aware that many people have private number plates on here, so i'll try and not be too offensive!

Recently I've been weighing up whether to get a private plate or not and have been looking at a few possibilities, but mainly M300...???

Trouble is, when i see a BMW with the private reg X5 BMW (etc), I just think 'you :censored:'

Or, if I see someone with the plate D311 BOY (I was trying to think of an example where the name of the owner wasn't quite so transparent, but more often than not you haven't got a clue what the plate is actually supposed to say), again, I just think 'you.....'

So despite the fact that I think 'car plates' and 'name plates' are utter :censored:..

..and the people who have them are utter :censored:..

I still would like one for my Zed. Which I guess, makes me a :censored:

1) What do you lot reckon (love em or hate em)?

2) And who has the best private plate on here?

I feel a poll coming on.. Calm yourself missus, not that kinda poll:winkiss:

Damian, middle name James (DJ)....Northern Irish plate, so cost two transfer costs (despite being a UK plate??) ...DJZ 300..

Yonks ago coming back from Thruxton with Team Green, we passed Stavros's (Steve Parrish) Merc pulled over being given a stern talking to by the boys in blue. Found out later they'd had some query over the legality of his reg plate: PEN 15

I got cut up on the M23 the other day by a chauffeur driven black Bentley Continental, reg. no: MR LION grrr!! My car at the time BI6 TGR ‘big tiger’, don’t ask.

MRL 10N..

I like that. Say no more!

Cheers

i saw ELV15 (i think that's how it was spelt) on a battered old mini years and years ago, that's gotta be worth a few quid...

i have to admit, i am one of these losers! i have a 3 as an E :blushing: and the text is in the wrong order so doesnt actually make sense lol! i dont love them, i'll take mine or leave it. i have to agree with car mad that a plate can, in a strange way, add something or look good compared to others. also, my original plate meant i had to have the rear jspec size plate over 2 lines, whereas my plate can fit in 1 line on the rear in legal size font. then again, no matter what excuse i offer... i agree i am still a loser :surrender:

i always wanted MU51CAL, as i'm a musician, and I did see a 911 turbo with F81 SPY looked like FBI SPY, looked pretty cool, when i was a kid :) or ya could have MU51C DJ

i saw that exact plate on a pt cruiser a few years back... it had a load of airbrushed musical symbols all over it.

Love em best one ive seen was on a Red M3 convertable years ago tasty blonde driving....... K1NKY

I am in the middle. depends on the car for me really. Older cars where the private plate takes the year away to make the car dateless, then fair enough. Plates that just say "look how much money i have" i just think "Cock". Generally these are attached to BMW's however can also be found on Audis, Mercs and the occasional Aston Martin

my cars ona private plate it means nothing to me and ity quite happily have it gone it doesnt obviously say anything just makes teh car look older than it is its an a plate. saw one the other day on my travels B16 KOB throught it was fairly amusing on the front of a jeep. a guy locally has an aston with the plate fa51 car or summin tbh i think that is tacky esp on a sleek car like that

Bought my Zed with a private Reg on it and I think it hides the age of the car a bit (as she is getting on a bit at 20). Reg is to go with the car although : A20 XTT I'm guessing its meant to read A 20X(ZX) TT(twin turbo) or maybe not who knows :D

Right then, the votes are in and counted!

You sad sods out number us sensible folks by 4-1!

Pretty conclusive stuff, in this democratic state in which we live the majority rule in favour - private plates are officially cool.

Unofficially however, you all look silly for trying to spell words that clearly don't look like what they're meant to!

In conclusion, I will preserve my anonymity (and dignity) and leave the private plates to the masses.

Case closed!
