I went to get a price today for some new tyres. Told the guy i wanted Falken, my rears are Falken, but he reckons the Nexen are far better. Cheaper too, £98 each fitted and balanced. I have booked it in tommorrow anyway to have them changed, just wondered if anyone else has Nexen tyres and what are your views/experience.

Cheers

No he is ordering them in specially lol. The cheapest Falkens i can get at the mo are around £120 each and until i have finished the suspension set up and other work pending, i wanted something a bit cheaper to run around. Im down to the thread on the inner drivers side ( Pirelli Pzero) so need something quick, not worth replacing one.

My Falkens on the rear do feel great and i will revert to Falken for the fronts when the car is finished. So it wont be raced or motorwayed for a while yet.

I know everyones verdict will differ, but the guy at the tyre place, for whatever reason, is convinced, these are better than Falken.

i had some nexans on my volvo and they stuck to the road like shit to a blanket . for a cheaper tyre they are pretty good . on the down side they tend to wear quicker than branded tyres but if they are only a stop gap before you get your falkens this wont be a problem .

I've had Nexens for about 5 years now and i swear by them. For me they wear better than some of the brands i've had...I had two more on the rear last month and I need two more on the front this week as i've got a nail in one and they're getting low so i'll be ordering them specifically!

If someone is trying to sell you one brand over another then its more likely there is a higher profit margin for him on the Nexens, his business making a profit is likely to be of more importance to him.

Cheers Paul, seems a good review. Looking at some other car forum reviews, like scooby, ford etc.. some folks seem to think they last longer than Falkens, but time will tell. I will let you know how they go.

Had them fitted today and had the tracking done too. A big difference in handling, mainly down to tracking being out previously. I used to get some bump steer and over uneven road pull, but im happy with the way it handles now, tyres seem fine, but havent pushed it yet/

did you get camber done as well as toe? im getting all sorts of strange vibrations and bump steer, thinking of getting falken 452s and then an alignment done.

how out was your tracking before?

The tracking was out mostly on the drivers side, looking at the tyre, it looked fine until you saw the inner edge, which was down to the thread, i didnt notice it till i got under the car though.

No camber or toe done , just the track rods. I havent got anything adjustable on the suspension yet, although its slightly lower than stock with Eibach springs.

The other bonus with this guy, is he refurbs alloy wheels. Showed me around the workshop, has a sand blasting machine, with the ultra fine sand and a spray booth, just for wheels.

He can get mine looking like brand new for £65 a corner, bargain.

I can do a direct comparison - I went from the Falken 452's to the Nexens, now the only difference in size was that I had to go from 265 rears to 255.

To me the nexens are utter sh*t in comparison to the Falkens. Instantly upon leaving the first junction the lack of grip was noticable! The Falkens performed 200% better in all scenarios than the nexens and at speed the car was a lot more glued to the road. Sorry but Tyres is the one place where it's almost certain you'll get your moneys worth when you pay more - and it's the only place I'll definately never scrimp a few quid again - It's pretty much 350 pounds down the pan when a further 100 bucks coulda given me much better performance and confidence.

I have Falkens on the rear, so no grip problems. I agree, i have never scrimped on my tyres. Had Pirelli P zero's all round before i got the Falkens on the rear and when the car is resprayed and the new engine and box in, it will again have Falkens on the front, but for running around day to day for now, the Nexens on the front are fine.
