Hi all just after a little bit of advice for my zx over winter. I am taking it off the road this week and rebuilding it over the next 6-8 months. The car will be covered with a water resistant car cover but is there anything else I should do to protect it as I don't want it rotting away or seizing up. I am also going to take pads out. As discs and pads are brand new.

Reason for taking zx off road is due to a tapetty / sticking valve noise from rear passenger cylinder so I need to strip it down and have a look plus I am going to do big power and weight reduction mods ready for nurburgring in June.

Any advice on prep for winter and modifications are welcome as I am new to zx's and jap cars. Only rebuilt original minis before this zx, so should be fun as it's a massive step up.

Thanks all

Dave

You're brave! Minis to Zeds - not much difference really!!!

How much power are you looking for and whats you're limit financially?

Cheers bud

Ha I have done a little bit of work on mates scooby but even scooby to zx is a massive jump but I am not going to rush it so it should be ok. I am aiming for about 500hp and a manual conversion. I am not really putting a budget on it unroll I have stripped it down see what needs changing or repairing (more it costs the longer the project takes).

(I have already done an engine change on the zx as I blew last one up (on the day i bought it) melted a piston and bit of the block as previous owner cranked boost up with out chipping ecu)

get it up off the floor or you will flat spot the tyres, give the interior a good clean (just makes it nicer to get back into and might stop the steering wheel going mouldy) if it has leather give that a good treatment. as you are doing the engine there is not a lot else, perhaps bleed the brakes incase there is any moisture in them and push the caliper pistons right in.

i took my zed off the road last december and its still not back yet although i have reshelled it

I am swapping all interior, it does have leather heated seats so if anyone needs any feel free to make me offer. It needs all new tyres anyway now after a few track days they are rather low on tread. When I fitted new discs and pads (3 weeks ago) I had to rebuild all calumets and bleed them through so shouldn't be any moisture. What's the best mods to do for 500hp?

Sounds like you're gonna need to uprate the internals. I'm certainly no expert on this, but you will want to upgrade pistons and probably the rods too. More aggressive cams and valve springs, injectors and probably swap the MAF sensor for a PAF sensor as I believe the Maf is only good for 400bhp+, not the 500 you're looking for. That of course leaves you a turbo and intercooler package to consider...

My guess is you should probably look at buying an engine someone has already done the work on... or remortgage the house and do it yourself!

Have a look through some of the members public profiles - if you have a look at the dyno table, the big hitters will have similar kinda mods that you're looking for/considering. Try not to get distracted tho:drool:

What's the best mods to do for 500hp?

Deep pockets, as you will ideally need forged internals, larger tubs, bigger injectors, uprated clutch, brakes etc. to relistically get this figure without destroying your engine. Even doing the work yourself I reckon 8-10k if your buying new parts.
