I was at work yesterday - manic as usual. Grabbed a coffee & went out the back for a quick break from it all & started to text my girlfriend.

Half way through texting my right arm started going dead & dropping down. I had to really concentrate to hold my phone! Put the phone on the wall where I was standing & started to feel really odd

I lost complete feeling in my arm & it just dropped down. Then started rising up & down on its own

I then turned round to look at my phone & everytime I looked at it the phone started to rotate 180deg on the wall - OK, by now I'm freaked out thinking WTF is going on?! Everything else was normal, no blurred vision or anything else moving just my phone rotating on the wall & my right arm dead - in fact I couldnt even see it kind of like my arm wasnt there!

Put my coffee down I was holding with my other hand on the wall & looked at phone - still rotating! I looked back at my cup on the wall & it jumped off the wall & smashed on the floor! (no, really! I wouldnt believe it either!).

This passed & I headed back into work - my friend started talking to me & although I could hear him it sounded like he was talking in another language - it was just garbage that I couldnt understand!

Took a breather outside & he came to check to see if I was ok. This passed & I headed back inside. Walking back into my office I felt it again, arm went dead & felt really strange

He took me to sit in our tea room & as I walked in I felt paralized & just couldnt move or talk at all!

Anyway they phoned an ambulance thinking I was having a stroke & ended up in Hospital yesterday for every check under the sun - blood checks, ECG scan, brain scan etc.

Everything checked out OK thankfully (no tumors or blood clots on the brain etc) but has left me with this episode that has no real explaination! Possibilities from the doctor is a partial epileptic siezure, blood loss to the brain or a series of mini strokes. It could be the start of something or I may never have this ever again!

With regards to the phone rotating & cup jumping off the wall I can only think that my "dead" arm was moving the phone & knocked the cup off the wall but my brain simply didnt register it!

Anyone had anything similar?! Or am I just a lone freak?!

Its left me feeling pretty dazed & confused about it all!

Just keep an eye on things Paul, and make an appointment tosee your GP to discuss it with him so they can mayeb regularly monitor your BP, cholesterol, etc - something like this can be a warning shot across the bough so don't just write it off without getting it follow up

J x

They checked everything last night at the hospital & all results came back good. I have generally always been in good health with no problems!

Will deffo be keeping an eye on things however :)

I'm sure they did and it was all fine, just suggesting it might not do you any harm to see your GP and mention to him or her about the event and have them monitor things, just in case. Its free and painless and could prevent something major in the future.

I'll shut up now :winkiss:

Paul, please please see your GP before your flight - just in case

Quite a surprising thread this... I do and have done for the last 4/5 years suffer from panic attacks? I dont know why, I hate them, It makes me very unsociable sometimes and I panic about having a panic attack!! But after reading this I think its just confirmed my previous suspision that too much caffene/sugar intake may set me off!!!

normally triggered off by stress and now I belive too much caffiene

Daz.

I thought I was having a heart attack once, had been having palpitations for a few months (on a daily basis). Came home one friday after a very busy/stressful week and just after my Chinese my heart had a few lumpy palpitations then went beserk. Called an ambulance and when the paramedic turned up my heart beat was still 145bpm!

I hadn't been looking after myself very well, not enough sleep, no regular meal times AND TOO MANY CUPS OF TEA (10+ a day). The paramedic man very politely told me there was nothing wrong with me and that it was probably a panic attack. I had no idea until then what one was. But ever since then its helped me to understand myself and how my body works.. I still get pangs of anxiety, but it never goes full blown now..

I started drinking caffiene free tea and that greatly reduced the anxiety, but just recently I started drinking full-fat tea and coffee again and guess what? I've started getting the pangs again. Should be a no brainer really, guess i'm a bit stupid sometimes.

The best thing I found though, was talking about my problems. Turned out that a lot of my friends had suffered from panic attacks too. Some much worse than me. But it was very therapeutic and helpful to talk about them.

So don't suffer alone and don't be hard on yourself either Daz, I think you'd be surprised how common they are.

Oh and as for you Paul, try and have a nice time in the Maldives won't you! Maybe you could take some more pics of Mrs Paul C again, for next years Miss 300zx competition!!

Best of luck bud, hope it doesn't become a common event!

Think you're all already having enough palpitations without Paul posting up pics of his lovely Mrs again to raise all your blood pressures and pulses! lol

Funny - we were both saying how we really need this holiday as things were getting too much. Nothing like a good holiday to just relax & get back on top of things :cool3:

Which is great Paul - enjoy - but please see yr Dr first in case this was a minor vascular event and you're going long haul - something as simple as aspirin could save your life - my best friend's husband almost died as a result of a DVT - he was only 38, mega fit and healthy too.

And I promise this is my last word on the subject :smartass:

Quite a surprising thread this , as last week I went to see my doctor after waking up and feeling shit at 7.30am with a very high heart rate and palpitations, He looked worried and sent me to A&E as an emergency!!!! I fookin shit myself as I`ve never been in hospital before (hate them) I went straight into a bed in A&E and was wired up to a heart machine, had blood tests and a chest x-ray!! I really thought i was a gonner(very strange what goes through your mind when put in a situation like this), rang my girlfriend and she came straight away, VERY Scary but after 4 hours they let me go and said i was fine ,fit and healthy!!! just really recovering from the shock still now i think, but feel much better, I do and have done for the last 4/5 years suffer from panic attacks? I dont know why, I hate them, It makes me very unsociable sometimes and I panic about having a panic attack!! But after reading this I think its just confirmed my previous suspision that too much caffene/sugar intake may set me off!!!

I was going to start a threat last week about panic attack to see if anyone else gets them because they do really piss me off and no matter how many times you have one you always think it`s the end , yeh DEAD!!

If you dont have panic attacks then the symptoms are, normally, sweaty palms, high heart rate, dizzy, lightheaded, beathlessness, fear, feel sick, need to get out of where you are( a sort of clostrophobia) and mostly come from nowhere, in my car, house, work, but normally in front of some one who your are unfamiliar with and its very emabarrasing, but most people dont realise you are having a panic attack, I`ve tried to learn how to get over them but its very hard, but i will

So if you do get these symptoms belive it or not you are just having a panic attack and not a heart attack!!! its hard to get the brain in gear that you will be ok, but for me they last about 10 mins/ 1 hour. normally triggered off by stress and now I belive too much caffiene

I've had this happen 3 or 4 times in the last year and never knew what it was!

I didnt dare go to the doctros as two years ago my dad suffered a brain haemorrage and then a stroke and has been left in a permanent vegatative state and I didnt wanna be told i was heading for the same thing.

They are incredibly scary and I'm embarrassed to say had my first one immediately after sex with my girlfriend once and i thought i was just out of breath! haha. I've had two at work (once whilst driving the van!) and then another at home on my own, which was the scariest coz i had to lay down and couldnt move!

Do you know what brings them on or even better can prevent them?

Paul mate - as a man I'm always the last one to visit the doctor. In fact in recent years I've only gone when Julia has dragged me there kicking and screaming!!

BUT I reckon Jane could be right here. Just for you own peace of mind, please do - it can't do any harm......

ATB - and have a great holiday!

Richard:chef:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

not forgeting even docs and specalists sometimes mis-diagnose...second opinion would do no harm ;)

Stress is a big contributing factor - if you do a lot of driving (for work) then this is an obvious cause of stress, but also things that affect your general well-being. For me, I'd been having a pretty bad couple of months - someone tried to break into my house, I lost my job and was obviously a little worried about paying the mortgage etc. I hadn't had a proper holiday in 4 yrs too..

Rather than being one single factor, it was a set of circumstances which conspired to culminate in stress overload. I wasn't actually feeling stressed immediately prior to the panic attack, but in hindsight, there were many things on my mind. I think though, once you've had one you can have a relapse just about any time with seemingly no obvious cause.

The thing that sets me off now is mainly caffiene - try cutting it out of your diet and see if it improves things. Also consider that you could actually have something physically wrong with you, maybe get a medical opinion - if nothing else, just to eliminate some possibilites. Once you understand a problem it becomes easier to manage and control and eventually eradicate.

Best of luck bud

Top words, and very accurate^^^

Mine all started when my gran died suddenly (I lived with my gran she was like a mum to me) Whilst carrying her coffin at the funeral my 1st ever panic attack started, I nearly fainted my heart was beating soooo fast but had to carry on as i didnt want to drop her!! the feeling lasted for a few weeks and I gradulary grew out of it. but stress of work, money job and most recently my Girlfriend of 14 years, her dad died a few months ago and it kicked my panic attacks off again:huh:

So as leo-r32gts mentioned stress is as big factor to push your body into defence mode, `Flight or fight` as they call it, your bodys natural defence in dealing with stress or danger, heart rate goes up so your body can deal with whats ahead!!

I think once you have had a panic attack then very minor things can trigger them off, definatley caffene, chocolate, alcohol, and sweet stuff for me, which is annoying as i love stuff like that, I can actually think to myself before i eat it that i will trigger one off, but sometimes just eat it anyway and suffer a few hours/ mins later!!

But, 1st things first dt300, go and see a doctor!!:thumbup1: not cos i think there is something wrong with you, its just to ease your mind and let the doctor tell you, you are having panic attacks, Dont, For fook sake! keep it inside like i did for 2 years and not tell a sole that these were happeneing, it makes it much worse (i feel like an agony aunt )

then once you know you are fine (which you will be) you can deal with them so much easier, then 2nd, try a process of elimination with your foods/drink. 1 week with no tea or coffee, then another with no alcohol and then gradulary you will find out what triggers them off.

Another best thing also is telling people and talking about it, because the more people you talk to about panic attack you cant belive how many get them!! VERY Common indeed, I only wish I had told someone sooner as mine do get bad sometimes an its only down to keeping it in so long.

good luck, and go see the doctor mate, my best advise you wont regret it :thumbup1:

Thanks for the advice guys! Gonna book the doctors soon as.

I have had a lot of stress. Like i said my dad had a brain haemorrage and a stroke and two years later is now at home in a permanent vegatative state and requires 24 hour care which is hard to see and also feel very guilty on my mum coz I cant help as much as I want due to work and having a young family. I do go round every night and help her bed bath him and settle him for the night which taks me till midnight and then I'm up at 5am for work! My girlfriend also lost her job 6 months ago which means i'm workign 80 hour weeks and trying to pay everything myself! You get used to things though and it all starts to feel normal rather than stressful if you know what i mean.

To be honest though I thought a panic attack would happen during a stressful moment but mostly they have all happened at random times.

Thanks again for the advice guys and I will go doctors. Hope he dont think I'm a moaning mardy arse lol
