Auto tranny fluid change...

Is it "safe" to change the auto tranny fluid in a 1990 TT which (to my knowledge) has never had a change in it's life?

The gear changes are a bit strange (2-3 seconds to change up from 2nd) so I was going to try a fluid change.

Any thoughts?

DO IT !!!

AFAIK, the fluid should be changed every 60.000 km !!!!

Don't forget to drain / clean the fluid radiator as well.

Fair enough!

Will it (or should it) have a noticable effect on the changes?

Same thing as with an engine oil change.

If you DON'T do it, you'll damage something.

If you do it....nope.

If your fluid is extremely dirty...it may improve things

I just noticed the price of Dextron III fluid - £6 per litre!

So I'll be changing it AFTER Christmas then...!

The long gear change may be down to your oil if your really really reeeeaaallly lucky!

p.s. good luck.
