I have fitted numerous kits now to different cars. But, I want to fit a set to my UK Z, at the moment the headlights light up dull when just the sidelights are on. So how will this affect the xenons? Is there something else I have to fit or do?

I still dont get it, what do I have to do? I assume if I leave it alone my xenons will try to light up dull when just the sidelights are on? and this will damage them!?

This what you need to do:

If have a UK vehicle with dim-dip this needs to be bypassed by doing the following.

 

Behind the wheel arch passenger side there is a green box with 2 connectors going into it, has this number written on it 28575 37P10 PD9. 1 connector has 4 wires, 1 has 6 wires. Remove the green box. Each connector has a red with black stripe wire - connect these two together.

This will bypass the dim dip, which will make it safe for your HIDs

Yep do the other mod, by earthing pin 5 on the relay. A simpler trick is to earth one side of the hid plug, which will keep the HID's on when using main beam, but will flash, with main beam, so if you dont flash much go for the simpler mod.

sorry to sound so dumb, but what exactly do you mean when you say earth one side? Also, what happens when I flash with headlights on? do they flash off as the mains flash on, or do they just stay lit ?

Right, by using a short length of wire, place one end in the same spade hole as the black ground wire of the HID and ground the other end of the wire to the car, this will stop the HID's going off when you use main beam. You only need to ground one side as they are linked in the circuit.

The HID's will also come on briefly with the main beams if you pull the stalk back to flash, which isnt ideal but not the end of the world.

 

The best mod is in a previous post, where you ground pin 5 again with a length of wire of the blue relay in the fuebox in the engine compartment, this makes the headlights do what you need.

When I installed the set in my old red ZX (which had the dim-dip), I didn't know about the by-pass trick and just wired it in as per the instructions.

 

However the dim-dip did not give enough power to the balast units, so nothing actually happened until I switched on the headlamps properly anyway! Just lucky I guess......:whistling:

hey there guys, great advice there, but could someone explain this dip dim jobbie, what it does and why? will it be on my J plate UK? i was just about to fit HIDs so better check to see what i gotta do. cheers guys

if you turn on your lights to just sidelights the dipped beam on your car will illuminate a little (dull)...

However the HID's do not like partial power or on and off all the time (i.e. being flashed).

As RichardSmith says it didn't affect his ones but as Groover says you're better off without it as it could damage the ballasts.

yeh, makes sence, was just wondering what benefit this had? seems to be a few wierd things on this car lol. stiffening rear shocks when the handbrake is up etc
